Mid 80s picture book of macabre tales. Black and white illustrations. One story had a vampire lurking outside a boy’s bedroom window but boy is hiding a stake under his pillow. Boy is smiling with one eye open while vampire looks very worried. Vampire says something like “Don’t stab me through the heeeeeaaaaarrrrttt!” Another story has a boy trying to catch butterflies with a net while running through mud in big boots. Mud goes everywhere. Another story has a naughty little girl (or fairy?) who sets a christmas tree alight and the plastic tree and decorations melt all over the presents. Another story is of a girl who must cut through a garden but the path is strewn with spiders, snakes, bats, possibly an octopus. This image may have been the cover image but can’t be certain. Or cover may have been a haunted house of some kind. Pretty sure the title had “ghastly” in it. I think I bought it through Scholastic in Australia as a child at school. Or maybe it was a Puffin book.
Hello, I’m looking for a this paperback, about 7 inches squarish, red and blue, I think, bit the top was cut out to make a handle. The story was about a boy going on a trip and he had a suitcase (that’s why the book was shaped like a suitcase), and he’d packed all sorts of things that came in handy on his trip… I think some string and maybe a bandage?
Hi everyone
I’m looking for children’s picture book I remember reading sometime between 2002-2009 in primary school in NZ. But the problem is I don’t remember the name or title of the book but I do remember some images from it (these images are all I seem to remember from the book), if I give a brief description of what I remember seeing from the book can someone please identify the name of the book for me please. the brief plot I can give about this book is it’s about a girl who raises a duck or goose on a farm.
Image 1: a girl (not sure if she was a child or a teenager but her hair is blonde and she’s a Caucasian/white) and her dad or grandad father are running towards a barn or shed in the rain (but they’re wearing raincoats)
Image 2: the girl is holding a baby duck or goose in her yellow raincoat in the barn or shed
Image 3: the girl (she’s wearing a white shirt, pants and a black dress on) is hiding behind a tree and the duck or goose (it has matured) is looking for her (but in a playful way)
Image 4: the girl and duck or goose are playing and having fun in a lake or pond
Image 5: the duck or goose is flying briefly in the air and the girl (wearing the same clothes I mentioned about in my description about Image 3) is waving her arms to the side (probably doing it for fun or teaching the duck or goose)
Hopefully these brief descriptions I gave are enough to jog someone’s memory of reading this book
Note: I’m not sure what country it was published in or what decade, but I guess possibly either the 80s, 90s or from 2000-2009 is when it was published.
Looking for a children’s book from the early 90s. All I remember is: it was set at Christmas; a primary grade class was participating in a secret santa; and there was one day they were decorating shoe boxes with pasta pieces.
Does this ring a bell?
One of the stories in Junk Day on Juniper Street?
Hello! I have been searching everywhere for this series of chapter books that must be long out of print. It was a series about children in different countries. The covers were blue fabric. Each book told a story of two children who lived in another country. I definitely remember one about Dutch children. I checked a different one out every time I went to the library. This would have been late 1980s but they definitely weren’t newly published then. If you have a way to find them, I’d love to find some for my daughter.
Old picture book with simple illustrations about an old couple who was dissatisfied with their house, and slowly fixed it up to sell, but then realized it was now their dream house. In my memory this was by Virginia Lee Burton or Wanda Gag but apparently not! Now I can’t find it anywhere.
Looking for a book for a coworker, she said it was about a girl taken under water by a whale, dolphin, or turtle, and there was some sort of castle/palace. It may have been a mother telling her daughter a story from her youth, and the illustration was beautiful with blues and purples.
Hello, I am trying to find an old alphabet book from my childhood. I have been trying to find online but no results.
It is very similar to the ultimate alphabet by mike wilks.
Essentially each page would have a list of words beginning with a letter, and then on the right there would be an illustration on the rigth with each of these objects hidden inside. Was not ISPY.
I remeber some of the graphics if that would help.
Thank you so much.
Hi,
I’m looking for a book from the 60’s or early 70’s about a cat who lives in a high-rise apartment in the city and meows so loud that he wakes up his entire family and meets another kitten who comes to his window to meow with him
Is this the book Jake by Audrey Couloumbis?
Is it the Redwall series by Brian Jacques?
Search for an older hardcover chapter book about 2 young girls, maybe pre-teens? They lived next door to each other. 2 vivid memories for me. 1. Both decorated their rooms– one’s was cranberry/gray, I think, possibly with striped wallpaper. The other’s was green and beige, I think, maybe w/leaves? 2. There was a 4th of July outdoor party and both had gotten hurt, I think, but came with their injuries, aided by parents who covered up one’s hurt leg and the other’s broken arm with flags wrapped around them, and they had blindfolded them to surprise them upon their meeting. They had missed each other so much, so the reveal was delightful. They were so glad to finally be back together. Read this in the 1960s but it was an old book at that time, so I assume it’s 1940-1950s.
Could it be ‘Trigwater Did It’ by Lissa Rovetch?
I am kind of amazed that I don’t know this book. I hope Mama Squirrel does! I can look later this week if she doesn’t. Suzanne
Hello,
What I remember about a book I loved as a kid that was my grandfather’s, I really, really loved that book and when my sister lost it, I was very upset for a 7- or 8-year-old kid. It was beautifully illustrated similarly like N.C. Wythe’s work. It took place by the seashore. A young brother and sister with their dog (I THINK his name was Ruff) played in the sand and decided to make a doghouse for “Ruff” out of driftwood. It turns out when they were all inside the driftwood doghouse, they could talk to their dog and he told them about wonderful mermaids and mermen who lived under the sea. They had tiny baby mermaids too. Well, that is all I remember but if you could send me in the right direction, I would very much appreciate it!
Sincerely, Glenn Gauthier
I found a Toolbox on Amazon which wasn’t too expensive but that seems to be the one you have. I’m afraid these books have become “collectible”, I saw only one of the others on abebooks and it was $77.
On Abebooks.com and Amazon you can use the publisher on the Advanced Search to make sure you are getting the right one.
Ebay is more likely to have copies without collector’s prices but sellers don’t reliably list a publisher. (You can find the authors on WorldCat, see below)
You can search Sold books on Ebay and see if you can see the ISBN number in the images and use that to leave Wants on Abebooks or Amazon.
Also WorldCat library listings have the ISBN’s for some of these as well as the authors, Use the Advanced Search, on : https://www.worldcat.org/#advancedsearch If you lose this URL, use the up/down symbols next to the keyword search blank. I’d put the two word searches in quotes ” Paradise Press”

Sorry this wasn’t better news, Suzanne
Hi, I’m Looking for a Christmas book my sister remembers, about a mum breaking her leg and the family rallying around to help her, anyone any ideas ? Thanks
Looking for a Christmas book where the mum breaks her leg and the family all rally around to help? My sister remembers it from when she was younger, she was born in 1972. Can anyone think of it ? Many thanks x
Looking for this book or any on the back cover. It’s for my autistic brother so it has to be this version. Came out in 2001.
Mary Poppins?
Yes, thank you, I’d forgotten about reading the book.
You’re welcome!
Seeking book, Mom read to kids in the 1950’s, included a scene where Mon and kids and table go up to the ceiling because of laughing.
May I Bring a Friend?, by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers. A favourite of my kids!
Thank you so much!! I tried coming back to reply, because my husband was able to figure it out for me. The name was escaping me completely, and it was so frustrating. You really know your books! I wouldn’t be able to answer ANY of these questions, and I do love classic childrens’ literature.
You’re welcome, and thanks for posting back. That was an easy one–I still have the very battered copy we read years ago.
Looking for a short, illustrated children’s book our kids used to read when they were young. We think it was about jealousy or envy. One of the illustrations in the book showed the little girl sitting inside a monster’s head looking through his eyes. I also seem to remember either she or the monster or both were green.
Hello! My brothers birthday is coming up and I am trying to find this book from our childhood.
All I can remember is that it’s about this little boy who would take baths, and when he was taking baths he would become this kind of “superhero” and fight off all the villains and monsters in his bathtub. I think “Sud” was in the title if that helps?
Its not a lot to go on, but anything would help! Thank you.
I think that it had something with ‘Sud’ in the name. If that helps anyone track it down?
I am looking for a specific children’s fiction, picture book, pre-2000. It had a pink cover, a queen, and the phrase “Friday is apple pie day.” I think a zoo figured in too. I think it was in rhyme. I simply cannot recall the title!!
hi, everyone. i’m looking for a paperback collection of scary stories i read in middle school – america – 1970’s. the one i remember best was about a boy who resents a new student who draws attention to himself by telling the other kids that he is a werewolf. one night, both boys stay late practicing running out on the track for an upcoming meet & when the full moon comes up, it turns out the new student really is a werewolf & changes. anyone remember that one?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for a book that had a little girl and different animals on each page. I am not sure exactly what it was about but I have a feeling that she was talking about the similarities that her and the animals had in common. For example she used her pony tail to keep flys away just like the horse did with its tail. The front cover was white with her either sleeping on a cloud or in an elephant trunk. One page I remember she had a straw hat on that was covering her eyes and she was resting against a horse. The horse was using its tail to keep flys out of her face. Each page had her interacting with a different animal. The only animals I can remember seeing is a snake, an elephant, and of course the horse. If you can help in any way it will be greatly appreciated. This book meant a lot to me and my dad.
Hi there. I am looking for a book that I read around 1999 ish (possibly the book is older than that). It was a collection of children’s stories with tabs for each story which included the princess and pea, and had possibly a giant or older man (bald) on the front of it. The tabs were different colours and it was a tall pamphlet type size. Any help appreciated!
In the 80’s in about 4th grade there was a series of biographies written for children. The versions we had in our school all had red white and blue covers. There were dozens and dozens of them and they included some not so well knows historical figures like Stephen Decatur and Nathaniel Greene. They were clearly geared toward classrooms because at the end of each book were 15 – 22 questions to be answered by the reader. Does anyone know what the series was called or who published them? I’d like to find a few of them for my son.
I read a children’s book when I was younger about a little boy who didn’t want to take a bath so when he was forced to he pulled the plug and goes down the drain and lands in a land of filth. He has to go on an adventure through a sock mountain, dish water river, and rag woods, to get to a carnival where everything is gross and moldy and covered in grime. He ends up at the restaurant where everyone is coughing and sneezing and its hot from all the bodies. He has to get to the bathroom stall to leave the awful place.
Shoes for Angela, by Ellen Bartow Snavely.
I remember a book I had as a child about people who lived on a boat all made out of recycled things with a garden on top. I read it betwwen the 90s – 2000s. I don’t remember anything else
Hi,
I’m looking for a book I read as a child back in the 80’s but I’m unsure when it was published. It was about a boy whose family lived on the frontier, probably early 1800’s. Periodically Indian tribes would attack and the families in the area would have to “fort up” and all move into a nearby fort. They were basically sieged there for some time, and at one point the boy had to sneak under cover of darkness to a nearby water source to bring back water for people. They used words like “gourd” and “noggin” (I think) to describe the water containers. I remember there was an older man who took the boy and another boy under his wing and possibly presented one of them with a new gun.
Hi, I would’ve read this picture book in the 80s or maybe early 90s but it could have been from earlier too. It was about a little girl (not sure if she was a human girl or an animal like Frances, etc) who thinks her parents (and sister?) have a party after she goes to bed each night. She finally convinces them to let her stay up and it’s fun and I think they maybe eat toast?
It is not a Frances book, it’s not “I Hate to go to Bed”, and it’s not “Amy’s Long Night”.
Thanks!
i remember reading this book in elementary/middle school (so roughly around 10-15 years ago now). i don’t remember exactly how long it was, but i know it had maybe 10-20ish chapters?
every chapter was about a different pet/animal saving someone’s life. i distinctly remember one about someone falling through the ice into a frozen lake, and a dog going and finding someone (i think it was that person’s friends) to come rescue them. there could be another one about a baby choking in her crib i think, and the pet (cat?) waking up the parents (though i’m not as confident about that one. it’s been so long lol)
i’ve tried to search keywords for what i remember on google, but haven’t had any luck so far
Hi everyone,
The book I’m looking for is one our teacher read to us at school in the mid-1980’s; we would have been 7 or 8 years old.
It was a fantasy book concerning a small group of people and possibly little monsters on a long adventure. It was a wonderful book that the class requested repeatedly, but the only detail I can remember was this group climbing a mountain and reaching a gate where one massive eye blocked their way until they answered riddles?
It had a vibe like The Magic Faraway Tree, and the Hobbit, but more humorous and modern. Any ideas very much appreciated.
I am looking for a children’s book circa 1965-66. It is about a little girl who only has a pair of black and brown shoes. She dreams of having more so for her birthday her friends bring shoes of every color. She ends up with hundreds of shoes and becomes overwhelmed by her number of choices. In the end, she gives all of the shoes away, going back to her original black and brown pairs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If it was set in Australia it might be “The Nargun and the Stars”
Sounds like one of several picture books out there based on the song “Three Little Fishies” by Kay Kyser.

Image 5: the duck or goose is flying briefly in the air and the girl (wearing the same clothes I mentioned about in my description about Image 3) is waving her arms to the side (probably doing it for fun or teaching the duck or goose to fly) and it’s sunny and there was a green field of grass

I’m looking for a book series that I remember reading as a child (I was born in 95). It was a beautifully illustrated series revolving around a kind old man and a bunch of children. I almost feel it was an alphabet series, but for older kids? Like the topic of each book revolved around a particular letter. It was so long ago that I may be confusing the content. But they were picture books with writing for elementary age kids who know how to read enough, not books teaching to read, if that makes sense? I’m just trying so hard to remember what this series was!
My mom still has almost all of my childhood books except this one and a couple others. The one I’m looking for, I recall takes place in a castle/palace, is black and white (or mostly), i clearly remember sliding down the bannister and the pile of cannon balls. i feel like some of the pictures may have had some objects in red (an apple perhaps?). i remember there wasn’t very much text, if any, but could be wrong about that. hard cover, i want to say dark blue. i was a little kid in the 1980s, i don’t think this book could have been first published any later than the late ’80s, could confidently say definitely pre-1990s. Other people on loganberry books I believe we’re looking for the same book, and they remember the boy has to go around saying goodnight to all the things in the palace
Hi all,
I’m looking for a book about vegetables in a foot race; the main character was a shy mushroom, but other characters included two twins peas, a carrot, and barley? I think. As a child I called it the ‘vegetable race’ book but searching on google I can’t find it and my mum has lost our copy of it. I was born in the early 90’s. Desperate to find a copy or confirm what it was called.
I’m trying to find the name of a kids book that I have lingering memories of. Every time I see a decoy duck I think of it.
In the book the kid keeps trying to get involved with the parents’ hobbies, the dad carves ducks and I think the mom paints pictures (maybe of vegetables?) but isn’t very good at them. Ultimately the kid discovers that they’re good at painting the duck carvings to look accurate.
This book is probably from the 90’s or early 2000’s,
I have been looking for a children’s picture book with text read in the early 2000s. It was about a red headed boy who was scared of swimming. He fainted during school swimming lessons and went through some kind of time slip, waking up in an old hut in a fishing village. An old man in oilskins had woken him up because there was a shipwreck in the bay outside their hut. They ran out to try and save the passengers and the boy saved the life of another boy who looked exactly like him. He then lost consciousness again and woke up beside the school swimming pool. Afterwards the boy is shown walking up to a graveyard by the sea and spots a name on the grave which is familiar (maybe has the same surname as him) which was the other boy’s, showing he lived a long life.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Hi! I’m looking for this app that had multiple interactive Illustrated stories in it. I can’t remember much but the first story was about a girl that had an eye patch because she lost an eye playing with marbles, if I’m not mistaken it was a great deal that the marble was red so her parents took all colorful things away from her or something like that. The rest of the story was her living in a black and white world until she finds this set of crayons and starts drawing all over her town. I truly believe this app existed at least back in 2013, I know it’s not physical and I tried describing it in Google but I can’t find anything. Help 😞👍
My Mum used to tell me a story about a little boy who loved chocolate. He couldn’t control himself and ate a chocolate cake his mother had made and felt so guilty he ran away and fell asleep at the bottom of the garden. He was awoken by a fairy who took him to a kingdom where they ate chocolate every day. At first the boy was happy and greedily ate all the lovely chocolate. But soon he grew tired of only eating chocolate and wanted to go home. The fairy grew angry and chased him out of the kingdom. The boy awoke at the end of the garden and ran into his house. His mother was happy to see him and offered him a piece of chocolate cake and for the first time the boy didn’t want to eat chocolate. My Mum said the story was in a collection of fairytales and the book would have been from the mid to late sixties. She thought it was an Enid Blythe book….but I haven’t found anything that resembles this story.
Here Comes Pete, by Eleanor Clymer.
Whirlaway, maybe?

This might not be it because its from the 80s, but this sounds similar to the book, “The Boy with the Helium Head” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.
No, it’s not that…although it sounds great. Might hunt it down! Thanks Sadie.

I’m look for a book that is at least 20 years old. It was a picture book, with colored watercolors (I think? might have been colored pencil) about an older woman who keeps some of her neighbors–and her postman? inside little bottles. She shrinks them. It’s quite an irreverent children’s book, and I think the author’s last name began with F, G, or H. I’d love to have the title or author.
As a child I would periodically visit my grandparents, in the mid 1960’s. They had a children’s book at their house that I still remember (as does my cousin). If I could find the name, I’d love to get us each a copy for the holidays.
Children’s chapter book, green cover, we think, but aren’t 100% on that.
Published definitely prior to 1970, more likely in the 1950’s. The storyline was pretty didactic, and that would fit the era. Also, while folks had cars, the vegetable man had a cart.
Generally simple plot: family with several kids move to a new location. The youngest child is named Petey, and he is the main character. Each chapter basically follows one event in Petey’s life. Chapters I can remember:
** Petey makes friends with the vegetable man who comes into town to sell his veggies. Petey and family are invited to go out into the country to visit the veggie man’s family. There was some cross-cultural awareness, but I can’t remember what.
**Christmas is approaching and all the townspeople ask Petey what he wants for Christmas. “Oh, just one of those little cars” (referring to Matchbox cars). Everyone is astounded he wants so little. In the end, everyone in town gets him a little car.
** Bad snowstorm keeps Petey and his siblings indoors. After complaint about nothing to do they all sit and start to create a quilt from leftover fabric. They work all day and succeed in creating quilt.
It wasn’t great literature, but it has sentimental value for us. ☺️
Thank you for any help you can provide!
MamaSquirrel – Didn’t see my reply to you posted, so I wanted to make sure you knew that I thanked you for your kindness. Found a 1st edition on eBay and bought it right away. Thanks again!
This is the book. Amazing! Thank you so much MamaSquirrel.
Great! Thanks for posting back. It’s nice to know when we’ve gotten it right!
THANKS again, MamaSquirrel! Found a 1st edition on eBay and bought it immediately. Once again, I really appreciate your help!
You’re welcome! Enjoy your book.
Found this suggestion on another board: Peter Graves by William Pene Du Bois
This is the book! That’s incredible. Thanks so much MamaSquirrel!
That’s the book! Thank you MamaSquirrel!
Open the Door and See All the People, later retitled The Toy House Dolls, by Clyde Robert Bulla.
A Little Cowboy’s Christmas.
Ok, so this is a longshot, but I’m looking for a book that my dad read as a child in England. He was born in 1932 and he remembers a book about paleontology that featured an animal who guided children through learning about paleontology. He thinks the animal was a turtle or a tortoise. He also thinks that the book was seen through the eyes of a child interacting with the animal, probably a turtle or tortoise. Any idea what the name of the book is, or the author? Many thanks!
Looking for a book read in the 1970s about a boy who discovered a lighter than air material he used to make himself float. The cover showed a boy floating using this material tied like balloons to his body.
I remember a book I had in the early/mid 1950’s. It was a Christmas story about a boy who longs for a rocking horse for Christmas. Apparently there isn’t one to be found. In a noble gesture, his father goes out on Christmas Eve trying to find one. He happens on to a store with mullioned windows lit up by bright Christmas lights. He enters and finds a proprietor who looks (you guessed it) suspiciously like Santa Claus. The father buys the rocking horse and brings it home to his son. Naturally the little boy has a very merry Christmas. I really loved that book.
Looking for the title of a children’s book 30+ years old. Small chapter book with some illustrations two pale short haired girls. There was a house fire I seem to recall. They then went to the library to “rent/borrow” dolls.
The reader is City Sidewalks. There’s no author named, so it was probably written for the reader.
One of the Bank Street Readers. The story is The Monster. It’s Malvo, not Mavlo.
Hello! I’ve been searching for a book back from the 80s or 90s- it was a hardback, white, larger children’s book. It delt with general children’s learning, such as getting ready for bed, helping friends when they fall, all four seasons, etc. It had really cute illustrations, and little boarders around the pages that had little pictures of whatever the page dealt with.
These illustrations influenced my art style a lot and I’d be very appreciative if someone knows the name!! 💕
Hi, looking for an illustrated children’s book where a child and their grandmother go out for the day but also they can fly. They go to the zoo and feed the giraffe (way up high because they can fly) and they get ice cream (they eat is sitting somewhere high up, once again because they can fly.)
But their family doesn’t know/doesn’t acknowledge it so it’s a secret somewhat. I feel like there’s on part in the book where another child sees them but that child’s mother just has his hand and pulls him along?
It’s likely from the 90s but it could also be late 80s. In the United States.
Any help would be great! Ty!!
Hi, I’m looking for.a particular short story that was in a series of third grade level school readers. The series had such volume titles as “Green Light Go” and “Around The Corner”; they also featured such short stories as “The Chestnuts”, “It Looked Like A Pouch” and “It Gave You The Shivers”. To my young eyes, they seemed to be very New York City in style. The short story may have been called “I am a monster” or something of that nature. It was I believe about a young girl who was watching monsters on TV, and I believe it was her older brother who said to her, “I am a monster.” And told her a story, which was accompanied by an illustration of some werewolf-looking creature, about being (my spelling may be wrong) “The Monster Mavlo”. On the next page, which had on it an illustration of her later answering a phone and looking terrified, the story said that when she answered it the voice on the other end said (all caps in the original book), “THIS IS THE MONSTER MAVLO!” Whenn she tried to ask if it was really her brother, the voice answered, “YOU MUST NOT MAKE THE MONSTER MAVLO ANGRY! HE MIGHT COME AFTER YOU!” Unnerved me pretty badly as a child reading it. The last page showed her watching a clown or something innocent on TV instead. Can anyone please identify this story?
There was also a Yellow Book. They were sold as a set.
Yes! And we had the yellow book as well! Thank you so much, I was finding absolutely no results on google. I didn’t realize those books were from the 70’s either, wow. I will be buying secondhand copies so I can read them to my nieces and nephews. Thank you again!
You’re welcome! Thanks for posting back.
The Red Book of Wordplay Stories, by Susan Batko.
The book you’re looking for is likely “The Word Collector” by Peter H. Reynolds. In this delightful children’s book, a young boy named Jerome collects words. He discovers the beauty and power of words, carefully curating his collection as he goes about his daily life. Jerome realizes that words can be used to connect, inspire, and share love, which is the heartwarming message at the end of the story.
It’s a wonderful book that celebrates the joy of language and the importance of sharing words with others.
The book is now likely to be 30 years old, probably older. I swear there were multiple books, or maybe just multiple stories in the same book. It was about monsters who were all different colors and covered in hair, mostly just round with arms and legs sticking out, if I remember right. One of the stories was about a little monster who was maybe smaller than the rest, and all the other monster kids would go out and ride their “monster bikes” but he was too small. And at the end there was a party of some kind where all the monsters got a slice of a super long rainbow cake. I’m remembering a mostly red cover with a handprint on it? Though for all I know that’s from a different kids book.
I saw this picture and it instantly brought that book to mind:

Looking for a children’s book read to me in the late 80’s early 90’s by my grandmother.
It was a hard back book and featured a story about a girl with a pet lamb. The lamb got lost/ escaped/ left out one night but the girl found it. They sheltered from the storm but come the morning
the girls hair that was jet black had turned white
Hi there. I’ve been looking this book for a long time. It is from when I was really young(4-5). I don’t remember the name of the book or the cover. The only thing I remember is I believe the book was about getting ready for bed. I remember a 2 page picture of a bay window with curtains. The bay window had a bench on all 3 sides that was underneath the window. It had children in pajamas sitting and laying in various positions on the bench. I remember a child on the right of the bench sitting up kind of towards the reader. The illustrations were very distinct as I haven’t seen that artist style since the 90s but it was not a mainstream 90s style.
Thank you!
I’m looking for a book that was an early 90’s (could be late 80’s). I believe it had a purple cover (I could be wrong) and it was about a skeleton man / medicine man. He was, what looked like, Creole or something of the sort. Deep south type of look. Looked like he was dancing? Can’t remember what it was about. I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but any help is appreciated!
I’m sorry, but I couldn’t find a specific fiction book from the late 1990s to early 2000s that matches your description with the name “Halley” or a dark blue cover. It’s possible that the book you’re looking for may not be well-documented or may have a more obscure title.
However, if you have any additional details or specific keywords related to the book’s plot or characters, please provide them, and I’ll do my best to assist you further in your search.
It sounds like you’re looking for a book called “My Magic Bed” by Lily Owens. This book was published in 1991 and tells the story of a young boy whose bed magically transforms into various exciting things when he goes to sleep, fueling his imagination and adventures. The concept of the bed turning into different vehicles and objects, as well as the emphasis on imagination, matches the description you provided.
I hope this helps you find the book you were looking for!
Hello, I’m hoping to find a book with very limited information. I remember reading this book a TON in the early 90s but i feel like it’s a 80’s (or older) book. It was based on a fish and I believe he left a small pond to swim in the ocean. I think he ran into a humpback whale. Any help would be much appreciated because I’m losing my mind looking for info on this book. My daughter is 1 and loves reading anything ocean related. Thank you!
Hello. I need help identifying a children’s book created in the 80s or the very early 90s I am assuming, maybe very sure. It is a thin, hard cover, and orange in colour book, obviously not a long read, telling a simple, innocent, wonderful story. It was about a family of insect, bug, caterpillar type/looking beings, one family of them. I remember vaguely the story dealt with a g rated negativity as a children’s book would, nothing graphic of course, a dilemma perhaps. This book was/is so sentimental to me and holds such great and fond memories. I still have the visions in my head but I cannot process them to relay them. I would love to be able to recall this book. I have tried, unsuccessfully, a Google search.
No More School, by William Mayne.
Wow! That’s like magic! I’ve just looked it up and the book itself looks really familiar – despite me not having seen much of it – but I really remember the purple now! Thank you so much – this has been on my mind for years. 🤗
You’re welcome! Thanks for posting back.
Hi there, I’m looking for a book from the 80s I believe. It had dragon illustrations in the vague style of Helen Ward or Wayne Anderson and it started with really gorgeous illustrations of a kind of kitchen garden with snails in, and dragons were hiding that looked like vegetables. There was one that looked like a marrow. There were possibly other mystical little creatures hiding too!
‘U.F.O. Unidentified Flying Object’ By Joanna Stubbs
Hello, I am looking for a children’s fiction book published in the 90s about woodland/forest animals. The book came with a large illustrated map, I think the main character was a badger. The illustrations were all dark, as if they were deep in the forest. It is not: Wind in the Willows, Animals of Farthing Wood, Brambly Hege, or Fern Hollow. Thanks!
Try this one: The Star Child, illustrated by Bernadette Watts.

The Star Money, or The Star Talers, a tale collected by the Brothers Grimm.

Must have been a picture book version?
Hello! It looks like you’re mentioning a book called “The Kill” by L. J. Smith, which is part of her Forbidden Game trilogy. If you have any questions or need information about this book or anything else related to it, feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to help in English (US).
Thank you Mama Squirrel- none of the covers match what I remember, but it’s entirely possible that the title is the one I’m mistakenly associating with the cover.
One book might be A Wonderful, Terrible Time, by Mary Stolz. There are a couple of different covers, each with two girls but no flower crowns.
Hi – looking for a book about a rabbit getting dressed for school. Could be from around 1991 – 1999 but possibly before as well. The rabbit is trying to decide what to wear / at one point puts on some dungarees and looks like a farmer / eventually gets the bus to school.
Hi! Anyone know the book with wonderful watercolour pictures about a giant colourful egg that lands on a castle turret and the inhabitants are fearful and shoot at it with arrows until (I think) it rolls down the hill and a (shepherd ?) boy finds it. It hatches a cute friendly dragon but I can’t remember what happens next. Would love it if someone could help with this. I thought it was called the UFO or something but can’t see it online anywhere!
Hello, looking for a childrens book from pre-1980. A boy visits a family member on a farm, at night boulders come alive and move on their own. Title might be something like sweet water.
My daughter had a second-hand book which was called something like Mrs Mouse goes shopping or Mrs Mouses shopping list and was about just that.
Mrs Mouse went shopping and bought lots of different things which made a long list.
My daughter loved it but it got lost over house moves and I’d love to find it to read for her children.
I have extremely limited information on the story I’m looking for… it was read to us at school (probably around 1984) and featured a group of children (I guess Enid Blyton-esque) who I think were tying to recreate school at an empty school (not sure why it was empty – I think it had been closed for some reason). The thing that really got me was the ‘school dinner’ they prepared by stealing some leftovers from places – like pudding from the dog I think and the fact that the older girl who was cooking boiled up grass as ‘greens’. I know it’s a long shot, but it’s been bothering me for years and I’d really love to know what the story was about. I would have thought the book itself would have looked like your average 1970s paperback, but I don’t recall seeing the actual book.
Hi! Long shot/ but I read an illustrated Children’s book about a girl who had a horse. The illustrations were charming as they clomped through the mud; training on a rainy day. Their bond was so strong and they were gearing up for a show I think. The end of the book there was an illustration of her feeding her horse carrots out of a prize cup. This would’ve been in the 80’s but I attended a western school in the Philippines and the book could’ve been published anytime between 1960’s-1980’s. Our library did not get newer books rotated in often. It seemed to have a 70’s vibe but I’m not sure.
It’s bugged me for many years- I’d love to find a copy of that book and read it again!
Thank you for your help!

I’m looking for a book published at least 55 years ago, probably longer. I don’t remember much about it, but it was apparently a knock off of the teddy bears picnic. A teddy bear has a lot of daytime adventures and then comes home at night and gets into bed, possibly through an open window. The last words are “ . . . (like?) your own dear bear.” I know those last four words are correct, because at a very young age I named my teddy bear “dear bear,” thinking it was a proper name. I would really love just to know what that book was, bonus. If I can buy a copy from someone. I have not been able to find it anywhere.
