I’m looking for a childhood book that I read in 1988. A goodnight book, that say good night to various characters including Goodnight to the witch and the witches cat. The cover is a dark Forrest at night with a witch flying over.

I think I’m looking for the same one. The main character was a little girl and I remember it having a black and white map of the village where you could see where she lived, her school etc.

Hi there
I’m looking for a children’s book that I read in the mid-1970s. It’s about a mountain that has a clockwork heart, and the key is made of pure gold. The mountain gets moved/stolen by a wizard, and the people living on it have to get it back home, but the wizard stopped the heart and stole the key, so it can’t move. I think there’s a time limit-if they can’t get it back home in a certain time then it has to stay. The villagers gather all the gold they can find to make a new key, but they don’t have enough, and it’s just a whisper too light to turn. A little girl in the village has beautiful long gold hair, so she cuts her hair off, and that’s enough extra gold to create the key. The heart of the mountain re-starts and they all go home.

Looking for a book from my sons childhood. I probably read it to him between 1992 and 1994. He adored it and is wanting to share with his children now. It was about a boy, on a river and s family of ducks. One of the ducklings lags behind and the boy focuses on that one. There is either a kite a string or a stick involved . The pictures we’re wonderful. It had a bit of the ducks ditty in the script. Up tails all). Thanks

I’m thinking of a short illustrated children’s book which was read to me / I read as a child in around 1982, so I guess it was published mid-70s early 80s.

I think it might have started “It was a very hot day”. There is some sort of traffic jam and people are fractious. A dog arrives on the scene, running into the road causing someone to swerve and hit a van which (inexplicably) has an enormous jar of jam on its flatbed. Jam goes everywhere. Chaos ensues. The chastened dog runs off.

It’s all/mostly written in one syllable words, with rhythmic lines like (these might be inaccurate) “the man in the van had a big jar of jam” and “the car hit the bus and the bus hit the van”. I think the last line might be “the pup ran away”.

I’ve been looking for this book off and on for about 15 years and it’s driving me bonkers!

Hi there,

I’m looking for a book from my childhood in the 1980s. My memory isn’t great, but there was a man who used to throw snails over the garden fence and it created a big mountain of snails. Any ideas? Sorry, there’s not much to go on!

Hi! I’m looking for an old picture book I had from my mother, I was
young when I read it so I don’t know exactly how old it was, but no
later than 2010s. I’m pretty sure it was a collection of stories
because I remember it being a bit on the thicker side, the one I
remember is a stuffed teddy bear that ate too many honey buns and
strained its stitching and was filled with too much stuffing? I think
it was a watercolour-y on white art style. Any help would be appreciated, many
thanks!

I’m looking for the title of a book I had as a child in the 1960’s. The plot was that a farmer is about to sell his farm. His son has moved to the city, and comes to visit with his own son. The son and farmer show the grandson around the farm. At the end of the book, the farmer decides to keep the farm, and cuts the “Farm For Sale” sign up and makes a birdhouse out of it. I feel like the title was “Farm For Sale,” but I can’t find anything. Any ideas?

Hello, I’m looking for a book from the early 2000’s or maybe 90’s, I believe it was about a monster making a milkshake or something to that effect. From what I can remember, the milkshake had banana peels and egg shells in it (and a variety of other “yucky” things). To the best of my memory the copy we had was a board book. I remember a lot of yellow/beige in the illustrations and the monster blending up the mixture and drinking it at the end of the book.

Any help much appreciated!

Looking for a picture book (paperback from Kmart) from around the early 90s: About a little girl who lives in a big Victorian-esque cottage (lot’s of pink and cream and flowers) I distinctly remember an illustration of her in a big bay window seat, and then shows her going out into the garden with a path and a gate. Blonde hair, puffy dress with bloomers, lots of detail, not a simplistic style. Not Holly Hobbie, or Once Upon a Time in the Meadow (though I had those also, and in that flavor!) It wasn’t a Golden book, no gold stripe at binding. Thanks for any help!

Hi Everyone. I’m looking for a book I had as a kid in the ’80s, a boy in a castle or
palace. In my memory, there is very little text, if any. Pictures mostly
black and white but maybe bits of red here and there (perhaps certain
objects such as an apple). I don’t remember what the plot of the book
is, someone on another website looking for what I believe to be the same
book mentioned he needs to say goodnight to everything before he goes
to bed. I clearly remember certain scenes/images, such as the boy
sliding down a bannister, and something about a pile of canon balls. The
book is hardback, I recall it being a dark blue and fairly sparsely
decorated cover. Definitely published before 1990. I still have almost
all of my childhood books save for a few, including this one, and it is
driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there! I’m looking for a book that I’m thinking was a Scholastic, but could be wrong. I remember a mostly white cover, and it was a search and find adventure. Little girl was the main character. Looking for a book about a ship’s cat with black and white illustrations, best guess printed between 1920 to 1950. Starts with native islanders gifting a kitten to the sailors, the ginger tomcat’s learning to live on a large sailing ship, learning to catch flying fish and eventually leaving the ship to live on land with the captain. At the end of the book, the cat is excited to climb some scaffolding because it reminds him of the ship. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, so I read this book at McKinney Elementary School near Portland, Oregon, sometime between 2006-2008. The illustration style is very distinct as it features realistic pencil sketches, each page alternating between black and white and full color to represent reality versus fantasy. The story follows a young girl who feels disconnected and disappointed with her life and her family. It focuses on her dreams and how they contrast against all the dissatisfying situations in her life/family. One of the fantasies is about owning a pet kitten named “Night”, with a very luxurious illustration. In the end, she connects with her family and is able to be happy and grateful with her life despite not having all of her fantasies fulfilled. Thank you in advance for anyone taking the time to read and respond!

I’m looking for a book from my childhood (born in ’89). Mom thinks it was purchased when I was pretty young. It was a LARGE board book (about 2ft tall maybe) and every set of pages was a panaramic picture filled with animal illustrations. Each set of pages was also a new scene like one I think was a fair/carnival, maybe a farm one. There was a picture with a hot air balloon, I know there was a hedgehog on every page. It was very colorful. Might have been a bear on the front.

Trying to help my partner find a children’s book from his childhood. The only description he has is about a boy who finds a frog/salamander/lizard and brings it home. His parents say that this is no place to keep it, and then the boy imagines his room/home as a swamp for the creature to live. He said that it starts off small, first with a few puddles on the floor and then a tree sprouts through the floor, etc. For reference, it was likely published before 1995.

Looking for a book published mid-80s of macabre tales. Each tale had a black and white illustration. The illustrations I remember were of a vampire peeking through a boy’s bedroom window. Boy is hiding a stake under his pillow. Vampire may have transformed into a bat and flown off into the night. Other illustrations included a boy bounding through a swamp trying to catch butterflies with a net and his boots getting covered in mud. Some kind of wicked fairy setting a christmas tree alight and the tree and decorations melting. A young child who wished to walk through a garden but the path is over run with all sorts of unspeakable dangers including snakes and spiders and all sorts of bad things. I believe it was published through Scholastic.

I read a book waaaayyy back in grade school or middle school. A girl goes to the ocean & hides from the wind & cold in a small depression in the sand. She observes insects in the sand going into a hole. Somehow she becomes their size & follows them into the hole. The ant in particular becomes her closest friend as they join together in a quest. The ant is killed, the quest is otherwise successful & she returns to the beach as her original size. When she looks up at the full moon she sees the face of her friend the ant in the moon. 1965ish to 1970ish.

I would have seen it in the mid-late 2000s, but I’m sure it was probably from the 90s/80s. I seem to remember quite large characters that were either puppets or big dressed up monster-like creatures that lived in a garden. I remember being obsessed with a children’s picture book about like 6-8 sisters that all lived together in a big house. It was a bunch of stories all put together. Each story was about a different sister I believe.
The story I remember the most was the prettiest sister being painted by her artistic sister. She sells it at the market and like a nobleman or prince sees it and is like “this is the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen” and then invites the pretty sister to a ball or something. I believe she shows up late because her carriage breaks down. It did seem to be more historical. They all lived together in a big house and did chores all day.
I’ve been searching for this book for years and cannot find it. I’m in my early 20s and I read it in like 2008? It seemed older to me as a kid so I don’t know if it was written
in the 80s or 90s.
I remember the illustrations being beautiful. Almost like they were painted.

In the 90s, my library had a book of fairy tales. I don’t remember most of them, but one was a story about three sisters who were asked to sit up with a lady who was dying. The eldest goes, but falls asleep and doesn’t come home the next day, so the middle sister goes the next night, and the same thing happens. Then the youngest sister goes and stays awake all night and then finds her sisters. I remember an illustration of the two older sisters lying next to each other asleep in grass. I think the cover illustration had a bear in it. In general, i think the illustrations were watercolours. Can anyone help me identify the book? Even if you can only identify the fairy tale I remember, that would help.

Hello, I’m desperately trying to find the name and author of a book I adored as a child in the mid-nineties. I grew up in Seychelles which means the books we got there were most likely published by UK publishers. I unfortunately don’t remember the story/ies but I clearly remember is was a very large oversized brownish hardcover book (rectangular, sort of maybe A3 size-ish or slightly bigger or longer). It was wire bound with a carry handle. I don’t remember the stories (I wish I did!!) but I remember the illustrations were lovely. It was along the line of fairies, forest, perhaps animals too. I would spend hours going through the pictures.

My mother in law has been looking for it for years and now that we have a one year old we would really like to find it. It had a blue cover with a moon, rabbit and giant on it. It might have been the following book but we’re not sure:
The Marks & Spencer Book of Bedtime Stories” edited by Jenny Tyler and Lesley Smith
Any help finding this book would be really appreciated.

I am looking for a childrensbook from the 1970’s I believe. It wasn’t colorful illustrations. More black and white. It was about a little boy looking for a birthday present for his mom. He didn’t have any money but he went around town looking for things. People gave him things and he found things. I remember a lollipop and a pinwheel. Then he puts together what he finds and gives it to his mom. Thank you

The Snow Party, by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers. There is a 1989 edition with new illustrations, but you probably want the older version.

Thank you I wish this was it but it’s not. The woman was not married. It’s a similar type of story but the one I’m looking for is more about math/sharing with the Venn diagrams being a big part of it. But thank you so much for looking!!

I’m looking for the name of a child’s book I had growing up in the 80s. All I remember is it was about a little mouse. She was in a cute home setting, maybe drinking tea and doing chores. I think she had a hat on. There were loke tabs or something you could slide and pull that made parts of the book move. Maybe ribbon on book Thanks

The book I am searching for was about an old lady who lived in a house with her cat. She sat in a rocking chair knitting. There was a big snowstorm and every car or truck that was going by got stuck in the snow and had to stay in the house with her. It was a very full house with lots of people. The book featured Venn Diagrams in the illustrations because the people needed to share the resources; food, blankets, etc. When the storm was over they all left and she was lonely, but they all came back to give her thank you gifts I think. Guessing that book was from the 60s/70s. I think it had an illustration on the cover of the house itself in an oval frame. The pictures were mostly black and white sketches. I keep Googling things like The Little House, but I know that’s a very different book! I think the name is something cute/short like that! Any help appreciated!!

“Its Nice to be Nice” i believe was the name of it. It was either a rabbiit or beaver family. they were brown.
I can remember some of the words. “You hold mothers hand when crossing the street.”
“The last line I believe was “Its Nice to be Nice and can be such fun”
It was a papreback.

Hi – im trying to find a book from my childhood for my baby son. It was about dreams – that start out as nightmares but the child faces the situation with a solution e.g. Remember each page starts with a ‘nightmare’ situation I.e. girl is trapped on top of a high mountain- and then next page she takes out some chewing gum, blows bubble and sticks it to her feet so she can walk down the mountain safely – another page there’s a giant insect, and the adventurer child takes out some giant bug spray; there’s another scenario with quicksand… does this ring bells to anyone..?

Looking for a book I read when I was a child. It had a picture of a kid putting hershey’s chocolate milk into his glass and he was wearing a kimono. He had the day off due to being sick I remember. His mom comes home and takes him out for lunch and stuff. It was something like Berstein’s Day Off or something. Thanks!

Wondering if anyone can help me find the name of an old kids book from the 80s most likely. It was a tall thin hardcover picture book with a story about a boy, and possibly his cat, that dreamed they went to space. I think. It just popped in to my head and I remember I read it every day when I was little. I was born in 83 so you can go off that. I feel like I remember a ufo, and a tabby cat. But the cat was just a pet, not the main character.
Any ideas??

Remember reading a book in the 70’s about a short king that had two
dragons who would do everything for him including making a bed or a
chair either combining their own bodies or burning wood into what he
needed.

Hello! I’m trying to find a favorite book from childhood 1980s and I have no clue what the title or author were. The characters in the book
went to a place called Camp Moonster in it, and that’s pretty much all I have. It was a chapter book.

Hello, trying to find a book for my niece, which was a favorite of mine in the 90s (possibly written in the 80s). The vividly illustrated story revolves around a boy who was supposed to go on a trip to the beach (or a park, maybe?) but is sick and has to stay home, so his mother surprises him by setting up a nature scene in the living room, arranging rocks and potted plants all over the place as if he were in a park. There might even be a pond on the floor (a paddling pool made to look like one? with fish in it?). I believe there is also a scene with a pile of sand he can play in, as if he were on a beach.
If this is familiar to anyone I’d love to know what the title is! This book would be perfect for my niece and all my searches have been in vain so far. Thank you 🙂

This is making my dad and I crazy. There was a children’s book in the mid-1990’s where some sort of creature (we think it was a badger or maybe a raccoon) is going on a picnic and ends up in a storm and flies around in the picnic basket. There’s a mother involved as well – she is either with them in the picnic basket or packs it with them? Sorry this is very vague but we just can’t figure it out!

Hi the children’s book I’m searching for has illustrations like Animalia and from memory is like a search/find book.
It’s about a young girl and colours: she enters rooms in her house that are colour coordinated and full of animals/items/scenery of the same colour. It’s based around the girl deciding what colour dress day it is I think. There are hallway scenes in between each room; the hallways are yellowy beige and there’s a tiny chameleon hiding on the pages. In the end I think she ends up making a rainbow dress?

I’m looking for an old children’s book that my grandma remembers reading to her children and grandchildren. This would have been around 1950-1980s. All they remember is a funny part of the story that lists a bunch of names and then “and Leroy”. Apparently they laughed during this part. My grandma thinks it was in a book as collection of short stories. She was also a country school teacher so it could have been in a reader as well. Anyone have any idea of what books I could look into? Her birthday (98) is coming up and this would be a great gift to her.

I am looking for the title and/or author of a children’s book I remember having and repeatedly reading as a child in the 1970s. The book could have been published in the 1970s or earlier. It was a picture book. The story involved a man who learned that artichokes have hearts, and decided not to eat them. Instead he was friends with an artichoke. He’d take the artichoke on rides on his bicycle. That’s all I remember, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I am looking for a book from my childhood, late 80s through mid 90s likely, starring a female hippopotamus. I believe she was a “star” of some sort. She was pictured on the cover, in front of her Hollywood-style-movie-star-dressing-room mirror (the kind adorned with light bulbs all around the mirror). Any help is appreciated!

Hi, So hoping someone can help me! I am looking for a board book I read to my kids 1995-2005 range. (We lived in Canada at the time) It was about a family, and the setting was possibly the UK in what seemed like the 40s or 50s. The pictures were highly detailed interiors and urban street scenes, with lots happening in the background baby baths, ironing, a baby in a pram, and clothing hanging to dry by the oven. I cannot recall the plot, but my kids loved searching through the pictures, and I would be so happy to find a copy to give them! The illustrations were watercolor and had a bit of a Helen Oxenbury or Nick Butterworth feel to them.

Hi, I’m looking for a religious children’s book about angels I read in the early 80s that may have been published in the 70s, 80s, or even earlier. I don’t remember author or title, but clearly remember an illustration with many eyes showing the cherubim / ophanim. I think there was also an illustration of guardian angels. I hope someone can help! Thanks.

I’m looking for a children’s book from probably the 60’s, definitely no later than the 80’s. It was a funny book about a mischievous child but each situation he got in involved a witty punch line or pun of sorts. In one part, his friend swallows a bunch of coins and they shake them out of him, only to realize he swallowed a different coin with the same amount of $ (for instance, he swallowed 50 cents and they shook 2 quarters out of him, but he had actually swallowed 10 dimes). Another situation involved him sitting on a man’s porch, one where he’s at the zoo and feeds the elephant peanuts or something, one where he’s at a birthday party. Please help!

Found this on a blog post about the books:

Writing under the pseudonym “Jo Mendel,” most of the books in the Tuckers series were written by Gladys Baker Bond, who is apparently still alive at age 95, and Mildred Gilbertson (aka Nan Gilbert) who lived from 1908-1988.

This is the complete series of novels:

The Wonderful House, 1961
The Special Secret, 1961, Bond
The Adventures of Plum Tucker, 1961, Gilbertson
Trouble on Valley View, 1961, Gilbertson
The Cottage Holiday, 1962
Tell a Tale of Tuckers, 1962, Gilbertson
Here Comes a Friend!, 1963, Bond
The Turn-about Summer, 1963, Gilbertson
That Kitten Again!, 1964, Bond

I read this book as a kid in the late80s, but it was an old book then so probably from the 60s.

A large family moves into a new neighborhood. Possibly where Dad grew up. Neighbors aren’t happy about a lot of kids moving in.

Boy/girl twins Merry and Terry. Merry is a tomboy

Older girly sister

Youngest is a boy, maybe Tom

Hi, I’m looking for a book from the pick-a-path or choose your own adventure series, or a similar series. Probably written in the 1980s or 1990s. It was probably geared towards younger children. All I remember is a page with mushrooms and one of the choices being a red or green door. Maybe set in caves, a castle, or both. I remember it having colour illustrations. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m looking for a book written from mother to daughter. My best guess is that it’s from the late 80s, early 90s. I cannot remember the title. I can only remember a few pages from the book and the general sentiment. The littler girl when she is like 5/6/7 looks like Phoebe from the Magic School bus. One page, has the little girl on her stomach on a rug coloring with crayons all around her. Another one shows her as a baby in a crib. Another page has her in the dark and her mom will come and scare away the monsters for her. That’s all I can remember. I’ve been racking my brain to remember more or even the words and I cannot.
