Morgan and Me by Stephen Cosgrove (part of the Serendipity book series).

A magical story of a little princess who wants and needs to do everything “…just a little bit later.” Everything is put off until later — until later she meets Morgan, the unicorn.

Note that the book was originally published in 1975, then reprinted later with “newly revised text” – which some fans of the original did not like as well.

My mom read this book every night with me as a kid, so it has to be from the early 90s or earlier. There is a kingdom and i distinctly remember the king having gout on his toe. And then 4 people (maybe princes/princesses) go on a journey through a candy forest.

I’m looking for a children’s picture book from my childhood. I would have read it around 2000-2005. All I can remember is that it was about 2 pigs. (One was pink and one was black) and one of the pigs got stuck in a briar bush. It was designed almost like a color pencil drawing through the whole thing. You guys are my last hope as I’ve gone through probably 600+ book titles and can’t find it.

Great Grandfather and the Honey Tree by Sam and Zoa Swayne.

“The story follows a man and his wife, and an episode where one night she complains that they have not eaten meat in three days. So bright and early the next day, the man sets out with a horse, a stoneboat (which is basically a plank of wood that gets pulled behind the horse), a net and a gun with only one bullet. The odds of him catching much are slim… at least until he nets a flock of geese, falls into a honey tree, slaughters a bear just by shoving it, snares a fish with his shirt and a partridge with his button, fells a dear with a tree and a mess of wild turkeys with that aforementioned one bullet.”

I am looking for a children’s book of short stories about made up words from A-Z. My third grade teacher read the book to our class in the fall of ’92. One story per day until we finished each letter. For example, the first story was about a made up word that begins with A. The story illustrates the definition of the word or how the word came to be. At the start of each story, the letter is printed largely in old English font and may have vines or something on it.

I’m looking for an old children’s book. It was black and white with maybe minimal color. A little girl is pushing her doll in a buggy stroller and there’s a boy in a tree throwing apples at them. Possibly a yellow cover. That’s all I remember about the book though. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I’m trying to remember the name of a book I read as a child in the late 1980’s / early 1990s – one of my earliest memories. It was about a parade and each page was a color, and the final page made a rainbow of people. I also remember a lot of clowns. Thank you!!

Does anyone recognize this book? It had a centerfold where a child was with a bunch of white rabbits. It was in the late 1980s this photo was taken. It was my favorite book as a toddler. I want to purchase for my kids. I think it says something about “I am as —-?— as a bunny.”

Hi all, I’m looking for a childhood book (1990s). I don’t know the title, but it was about a girl who caught and kept fairies/butterflies in jars. I remember the art for it being very beautiful, and it might have included them trapping her in a jar so she knew how it felt.

Hi! I am looking for a children’s book, pre-1969, possibly as early as the 1950’s. It is British/English. It’s about a group of animals in a forest who are looking for a new home and eventually find a double decker bus, which they make into a house. It could be a family of animals, hedgehogs or something like that. It had illustrations but I don’t remember it being a picture book. Thanks!!!

I’m looking for a book that was a collection of stories. The story I remember was about a little boy who was scared of dogs and he had to pass a bunch of dogs on his way to school. By the end of the story I believe a dog had won him over and he wasn’t scared anymore. I think either the boy or the dog’s name was maybe Alfred. The book was older and was at my grandmother’s house….maybe from the 60s? but not sure.

I have a very large stuffed brown dragon from either the late 70s or early 80s. It had a book that came with it. The dragon’s name was Elliott. I have found Pete’s Dragon, but it doesn’t look anything like the dragon I have. Anyone know of another book from around that time featuring a brown dragon? (He was always brown; not just brown from aging.)

Does anyone remember young readers book about a kid trying to save dragons? I would have read it in the early to mid 90’s. The main character was a young female peasant type. She finds a baby dragon or dragons. The plot was to do with how dragons were hunted down in the land, and she wanted to take them to safety. The specific scene I remember was that she was in the waste area of a castle with one of the baby dragons next to the castle kitchens, and a scullery maid sees her with the dragon hiding out and summons the guards, so she has to wade through the garbage and get away. I think she was in a septic tank type area. The details are fuzzy at this point but I think she might have gone to the castle to try and find help but couldn’t. I don’t think she was from the castle. Anyhow, if anyone remembers this, that would be great!

Hello! I am looking for a children’s book. One of the characters was part of an order of “Sages”. I think it was just a group that collected knowledge, I don’t think magic was involved. I somewhat remember there being different races. I think there was regular humans and some kind of “small person” race, but I think they were more like mutated intelligent animals instead of being along the lines of hobbits/gnomes/dwarves etc.

The specific scene I remember was that they were at some kind of headquarters for the Sage group and it was under siege and the invaders had just broken through, so the characters were barricaded in a room. They’d found an ancient artifact that was a box and had just figured out how to activate it. A male voice came out of the box describing the history of a nuclear war that happened in the distant past, and how the box was created as a repository of knowledge to restart civilization. At the end of this speech the voice says language might have changed to the point that when the box was found nobody could understand what he is saying, so the box starts projecting simple images with an associated word to teach the listener the language. One of the sage order starts desperately copying everything down, even as the invaders are starting to break through.

I got this from a public library I would estimate in the early to mid nineties. Can’t remember anything else, but if any of this rings a bell for someone I’d love to know a title or possible author and revisit it. Thanks.

Hi! I am trying to chase down the name of a fairy tale / other children’s book… as a child, I read a story about a girl either lost in the woods / kidnapped??? she was being held for ransom I think… she outsmarts the men / man and he ends up tripping into a vat of tar and she throws feathers on him! Someone told me it sounded like ‘The Robber Bridegroom’ or even ‘The Goose Girl’… but in all versions, the tarring and feathering is absent. I need help in trying to find it!

Ok so here goes: 1985 or so. I never held this book in my hands, it was a book on tape. The tape was clear and inside the cassette, there were purple discs (shiny, lavender color purple) around where the parts turn inside the tape player. The narrator was female. It was about a young (maybe 10 years old?) girl and her parents. They lived on a planet that was purple. I think there was something about space travel but I’m not sure. The girl either gets separated from her parents or leaves to go exploring… perhaps gets lost. I don’t really remember what happens while she is gone from her parents but I have a very strong memory towards the end of the story of a purple sun rising over the purple planet. It was kind of a feel good story.

Looking for a children’s book probably from late 60’s-early 70’s. A pioneer family has a tough winter. It’s early spring and they are almost out of food so the father either heads into a distant town or to hunt. He heads out with a horse & sledge and only one bullet. Along the way he somehow manages to get a bunch of turkeys by shooting the branch they are sitting on and trapping their feet. Also gets a deer somehow and possibly some other animals. The sledge gets so heavy with all the food that the leather “traces” stretch and when he and the horse get home the sledge is still out in the woods. Overnight they dry and the sledge is at the door in the morning. Thanks for any help!

There’s a book we had when i was very little (i was born in 1999) but i honestly couldn’t tell you how old it was, but it was a collection of fairy tales with these beautiful oil painting-style illustrations. I remember Rumplestiltskin, King Midas and The Wild Swans, also possibly rapunzel, and the illustration for the wild swans had a girl in a green dress with dark hair on the left page and i think she was throwing the nettle coat over the swans which were on the right page. I know it’s not much to go on but if anyone can help I would be forever grateful, I’ve been searching for this book for years!

I’m looking as a surprise, she has been trying to remember the name of this book for the longest time.

She mentioned something along the lines of a white which and a sugarloaf mountain? Apparently there was all of these white animals in it…she could have said that everything was white. And I cant remember if she added this or not but I’m pretty sure everything become colourful.

I hope you can help! We have done extensive research and have come across nothing.

Hi! I was born in 1997, so probably the book I am searching for was on between 97-2002. There was a princess who would come the kids went to sleep and she would take all the kids to a “dreamland” or a “toy-land” with a train or a plane. ( I can’t remember) and in this fantasy land, there were so many toys. Later the princess would call everyone back to the train to take everyone back to their homes to meet with their parents again. I don’t remember the message of the story or any specific names about it. I remember the illustration were mostly pink. The layout of the book was a horizontal rectangular. It would mean a lot f any one have suggestions!! This was my favorite book and somehow it got lost and no one remembers it from my family. Thank you!!!!!

In the 1960’s, we had a hardcover collection of children’s stories. One of them was about a day when dolls all came to life. Some of the dolls had to be taken to the hospital to be repaired. There was a black doll named Dinah. That’s about all I can remember. I would love to find this story to read to my granddaughters.

In the 1970s my Mom would read me a book about cats. It went something like (name of cat) is playing with yarn, (name of cat) is eating, this cat is napping…. and this cat (I want to say Mildred?) is in the litter box. It would repeat – this cat is playing in the yard, this cat is chasing a butterfly, this cat is… and Mildred? is in the litter box. I’m looking for a children’s book with beautiful illustrations that was about 2 rabbits arguing over which one of them their mother loved more. They both fought for their moms attention, making a footbath that dyed her feet purple, making a music box filled with crickets that escaped and picking peaches for her (which ended up with the boy bunny breaking his tail and being carried home by the doctor). The book ends with them tucked up in bed agreeing that their mom loved them equally before one of them says “but father still loves me best!”

Hi, Im looking for a Children’s book that I read one time at a bookstore back on 2004-2005, it was a picture book about a boy and a girl and how both struggle to get along on each page, and the narration compares how the girl feels uncomfortable each time the boy talks with his buddies in a group and viceversa with the boy feeling uncomfortable when the girl talks with her girl friends and giggle at him. The book goes like this with the narrator asking each page something like “how do they get along when…?”, with childish beef like sharing shelves for their toys and deciding what to play. And the end is the part I liked the most, ends up with something like “Perhaps they were able to get along… because they growed up”. I would really appreciate your help 😀

Hi, I’m looking for a book from my childhood. It’s about a brother and sister, the sister is watching tv and the brother keeps telling her that there’s a monster and she keeps telling him “Don’t bother me I’m watching tv.” I’d really love to find it to give it to my son as this was a book that my Grandpa used to get me at the library. Thank you so much.

Looking for the name of a childrens book my class in the 90’s read. It’s about a young girl who posts a letter but is then confronted by an invisible creature that it’s a cursed letter & that unless she retrieved it from the post office, she’s doomed to become a supernatural creature. Can not think of what it’s called…

I’m looking for a book that probably dates back to the 1930s 40s or 50s. It is about a little immigrant girl who was traveling with her parents in the new country and her mother had a set of plates that one by one were broken during the trip. At the end of the trip only one remained and the little girl when she became a woman had the plate hanging on the wall as a remembrance.

I am trying to locate a children’s illustrated book that i had in England, that was likely published in the 1980’s , but definitely not after the early 1990’s. It had beautiful detailed illustrations, and was about 2 sheep investigating different areas, such as beaches and tidal pools. The illustrations were amazingly detailed, for instance, the tidal pools would be covered in rocks, bottles, animals, sea weed, plants etc- you could look through the individual pages for hours on end, but the stories always involved the two white sheep. They were drawn realistically, and not “cartoony” at all. I believe it may have been a series of books. Please let me know if you have any information!

Key aspects:
-About 2 sheep exploring new places
-realistic and extremely detailed illustrations
-Likely part of a series of books
-Purchased in England, likely a European publication (but not sure)
-Printed circa 1980’s-early 90’s if not earlier.

Thanks for writing back. I don’t think many people remember this book, but it’s lovely. Glad to hear a child liked it.

Looking for a book about some boys who made a club with masks and swords and hid them on the beach from others. One boy didn’t want the clubs to battle so he hid their stuff? Maybe set in France? It showed you how to make the masks etc.

Dinosaurs And All That Rubbish by Michael Foreman?

From a couple of online reviews:

This is a great thought provoking story which can be enjoyed by children of all ages. The pictures are colourful, bright and friendly. Although published in 1972 the message of pollution and the importance of recycling remains the same and is probably even more relevant today.
At the beginning of the story a man sees a star and sets his sights upon it. In order to reach it he has to build a rocket and in doing so destroys his own environment with deforestation to provide fuel for factories, factories everywhere belching out filthy smoke, and piles of waste heaped high everywhere. The man reaches the faraway star but it is disappointed to see that there is nothing of beauty there. All he can see is his own planet far away in the distance. Meanwhile on earth the heat of the smouldering rubbish awakens dormant dinosaurs who had been asleep beneath the earth’s surface. They emerge and are appalled at the state of the planet. They set about cleaning up the Earth. When the man returns he sees that the Earth is a beautiful place and learns valuable lessons about looking after the place you live for everyone to enjoy and share.

A man grows envious of the birds and decides to build a rocket to go to the stars. He does this and leaves the planet, but the effort requires so much industry that the Earth is ruined in the process. Awakened by the tremors of all this activity, the dinosaurs, who have been hibernating deep underground, return, and, horrified by the waste they find on the surface, they set about cleaning up all the waste and return the planet to its pristine natural glory. The man, disappointed by what he finds in space, returns to Earth, thinking it a paradise but not realizing until he arrives that it is the same planet that he had left. The dinosaurs only agree to let him back if he agrees to be a better caretaker of nature. A great story for children with a strong ecological and traditionalist message.

All the ones I saw were written by Nancy Parent, so “nancy parent” “bag” is a good way to search for most of them otherwise just use “Nancy Parent”. If you don’t live in the UK, the shipping is going to be expensive . You might get lucky and find a set for sale on Ebay but I wouldn’t wait for it. You’ll probably have to get them one by one, but maybe he’ll enjoy them more that way. Ebay seems to be a good source, Abebooks.com has a few inexpensive ones. Amazon has a Purse for $105!
Good luck in your search, Suzanne

(If you are in the US, sort the abebooks.com list by “Lowest Total Price” not “Lowest Price” to account for shipping charges.)

I’m looking for a book about man disturbing the sleep of the dinosaurs by rubbishing the earth. The dinosaurs wake and clear the rubbish, break up the roads and show man how beautiful the world is. He teaches him that it is there for everyone not just for him. I’d be very grateful if anyone knows the title. Thanks.

I remember a children’s picture book read to me by a school librarian likely between 1976-1979. I distinctly remember one illustration that showed part of a cat’s face which looked huge, peering in a very tiny window or being seen by someone small (a mouse?) in the wild…perhaps looking between plants? I think it was happy in the end! I’d love to find it. Thank you for reading!

Hello- I’m looking for a kids picture book circa 1980’s. It’s about a child eating ice cream all summer. I think there’s a girl who has an ice cream cart over the summer and the child buys a different ice cream everyday, or every Friday or something. There’s a picture of each of his ice cream choices. I remember a couple of particular boring pages where he chose a popsicle instead. I think I remember the art being a watercolour-look.

Hi I am looking for a book that would have been in the early 2000’s scholastic book fair. The cover was an orange cat with a blue background, the cat was found in the snow and let inside by the little girl who lives in the house. Very cartoony art style, I believe the girl has to nurse the cat back to health as well. Please I have been searching for years

I’m looking for a picture book that I’m guessing was published in maybe the 1970s or 60s about a large pumpkin that a family was going to enter into a fair, but as they were packing it up on the day of the fair, it fell and cracked open. The mother quickly baked it into 2 giant pies and entered one of them into the pie contest instead, and won first prize. The judges loved her pie so much they ate it all up! The family was glad she had kept a pie for them at home.

Looking for a Childrens book possibly from the 90’s it had a little girl in it and from memory there were all these special rugs Persian type perhaps and the rugs would come to life and change positions. For example rolled up in the corner. Each rug had different patterns on them and there was always a cat in the room.

Have you looked at Mike Wilk’s book The Ultimate Alphabet? It was published in 1986. There’s a page for each letter and all the objects start with the same letter. It’s amazingly detailed – the pictures are very realistic and detailed. I remember having a borrowed copy in the mid 90s and spending hours poring over the pictures. It’s not specifically a children’s books but I know it was used in classrooms here at least.

Hi- I’m going insane trying to find a childhood book so that I can purchase it for my daughter. I believe the title was simply “Colors” but a search of that returns thousands of results. I recall it was a hardcover, white and rectangular in shape. The book talked about primary and secondary colors and had cellophane pages that would change the illustrations when you flipped them onto the page. I distinctly remember one page where as you flipped the pages the illustration gradually ate a hat. I can picture the cover and just about ever page but having difficulty with the search!

I asked our children’s librarian at work. It sounds like a board book. I typed in an image search for “colors board book” and got lots of pictures of color books, maybe you could look through them and see if you recognize the cover.

Hi
I am hoping you can help I was born in 1970 and as a child read a book about a cat who was very vain and cut her claws and wore nail varnish, she couldn’t get away from something ( a dog I think) as her claws were too short to climb the fence? If you can help I’d be really grateful.
Thanks
Kelly

This is all I can remember. I also remember the cat sleeping on the front door step in the snow. If anyone knows what book this is please let me know!!
