Hi there. I am looking for a middle grade (possibly YA?) book about a group of children with unique physical characteristics. I remember a girl with small wings, and a boy with very thin skin. They are rescued from an institution where they are being kept. I believe it was written in the 2000’s. Thanks in advance.

Nope not it either. This is making me feel crazy! Ha! If I had to guess, it had at least 100 pages. Thin – smooth – novel-like in length.

I’m wondering if “Brown” is throwing off this search but I don’t know what else to base it off of! I’ll keep digging and if I can remember anything more, I’ll post here. I really appreciate the try though!

Hello, I am looking for a children’s picture book. I have no idea the publisher or when it would have been published. I cannot remember the title, but do not think it is super reflective of plot. I remember the book being mostly about the illustrations, and less the story. It was a story about a girl reflecting on her life and something about a blue ribbon she has kept (possibly for a wedding?). The illustrations were her memories of growing up between ~1890-1930. I distinctly remember the fashions of these time periods as well as the activities depicted in the illustrations. Two pages that stick out is one from an early easter egg hunt, and then another later in her life at an ice rink with horse drawn carriages. It is a love story. and there was something about the special ribbon she kept from her childhood love. The illustrations were in a kind of impressionist style.
As you can imagine, googling this description results in many books FROM the period of 1890-1930, but I do not remember this being necessarily an old story and the book was modern printed. I was reading it between 1996-1999. The details about the blue ribbon just bring up books with a blue ribbon award. (and the green ribbon girl book which this is not that)
The book size was about 11×8 inches, and hard cover.
Let me know if you can help!

Hello! I’m looking for a children’s illustrated book probably written in the early to mid-90’s… It’s about a boy who has a blue starry blanket with a sun and moon on it that his grandmother made for him but it ends up with a hole in it. His grandmother tells him he needs to collect a thread from the moon and a thread from the sun in order to fix it… around dawn he reaches into the sky, first on one side of his house and then the other, and pulls a cold thread from the moon and a warm thread from the sun so his grandmother can fix his blanket. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I’m looking for a book from the early to mid 80’s. Unfortunately I can’t remember anything about the plot but the illustrations were about two different kinds of people – thin people who were mean and living somewhere cold (maybe with icicles) and then fat or large people who were friendly and living somewhere warm.

Hello , I’m looking for a Sci-Fi graphic/comic book that is about a sister saving her brother. I remember the colors being so vivid and gorgeous in this book ; my abusive uncle threw it away when I was a kid.

I remember there was an attack to a castle or some type of royal building and these guys were on rocker backpacks in the star lit night.

I believe the brother was taken in his sleep and she’s trying to find him. It’s to another world. The evil man changes the kids into something. I don’t remember much , I just always see the bright and vivid blues and red and so on. It’s a comic book style hard book.

Half remember reading a book in grade 6 (Canada, Ontario) that a boy moved to a new town or went to summer school but he met two boys who were a short guy I forget the name of and a tall boy named Moose. I forget how but they convinced him to infiltrate a girls party disguised as a girl. One of the girls there was called Candy Lane and they made a point to say her name was weird and her parents suck for calling her that. The girl running the party found her mum’s micro bikini and then said that all the girls should try it on. She went into the bathroom and then came out not wearing it saying it didn’t fit and then tried to make the disguised dude wear it. Think he might have dipped out the bathroom window or something.

Just randomly remembered this from childhood and then thought damn I can’t believe they made kids read something like that in grade school, weird book but I can’t find the name with my limited knowledge.

There are a couple of possibilities, depending on the format of the book. The author is Carolyn Sherwin Bailey. The story, titled “The Terrible Tiger,” was included in the reader Enchanting Stories in the Easy Growth in Reading series. But that was adapted from “The Tale of a Tiger” in the book Merry Tales for Children.

It’s not actually Jerry’s tiger–he borrows it from his brother.

Hi. Looking for a British childrens book that I had in the 1962-66 time-frame.

It was about a bunch of kids who met an older boy named Oliver who was an ornithologist. They had various adventures in the woods near their house – I think they ran into a gang of bad men – the details are somewhat fuzzy!

Anyway, it was a good book and I would like to read it again.

Looking for an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty where the illustrations are black and white, either charcoal or pen. The story is told from the “prince’s” pov, but it has been centuries since the princess fell asleep. The book has a horror vibe with a scene where the prince finds the skulls of everyone that turned back trapped in the thorns. This scene was illustrated. I also vividly remember a illustration of the cat sleeping and covered in a layer of dust and spider webs. If you know this book please save me!

My Dad remembers illustrations of a fireman with an axe, a policeman, and a woman with a rolling pin. Can anyone help me find it?

Hi there! I’m looking for a book I read when I was a kid about 10 years ago or so. In the book there’s two sisters. I think the big girls name is anna and the younger is Samantha. I’m not sure. But I do remember that they had moved into a old house with their parents. The older girl was always like the star of the show always pretty and good at everything. While the smaller had like short chopped hair or something like that and wasn’t good at anything. She was mostly jealous of the sister. I remember that on the first day of new school the smaller sister took like a bag of dead flies to school in her pencil purse and one of her classmates saw her. Also I remember at the end of the book the school had a play or something of the sort and the big sister was the star. However she and the little sis were playing and she fell through the laundry chute or something like that and broke her leg and I think at the play the lil sis came through for her and the book ends like that where the little sister finally got the spotlight for once.

I’m looking for a book based in the UK.

It’s an autobiographical story by a girl called Jane or Janey. It starts with her failing the 11+ because she doesn’t turn the last page over and misses a question.
One chapter was about about the games they played eg knock down ginger and kick the can.

I read it in the late 1970’s/ early ’80s and the cover was white.

Hi – looking for a paperback book I had as a kid, early 80s. It was a book of puzzles and the cover showed a kid tied up hanging upside down over some spinning saw blades (I think) – they would give a scenario, maybe a spy trapped in a certain room etc… and you had to work out how he could escape. “For his hat was a hundred and two feet wide,
With ribbons and bibbons on ever side,
And bells, and buttons, and loops and lace,
So that nobody ever could see the face

It has been reprinted lots of times, with different covers and illustrations.

Hi, I’m looking for a book probably aimed at teenage girls. It was about four (I think) female high school friends from England who went on a cycling holiday in the summer with their teacher. One of the girls was poorer, one was a bit snobby, another was quiet, other one very sensible, and their characters improved during the holiday. The teacher was young and female. It was either set in the 1930s or 50s and was an older book with plain handback cover. It probably had a slip to the cover that I never owned.
I’ve looked in countless bookshops and obviously Google to no avail – hopefully someone will know it. Fingers crossed!

I’m looking for a children’s story book my sister and I owned around the late 1980s – possibly very early 90s. It could have been published earlier as we had many older books. We do not recall the storyline but it involved an ice cream package that melted on the way to wherever it was headed, leaving little pools of melted pink ice cream on each page of ilustration. My sister recalls it being on the back of a bicycle – the only detail I recall is pink and white (maybe pink and brown ice cream). Any ideas? I have been searching for many years now and the closest I got was Garth Pig and the Ice cream lady which I do recall reading – but it doesn’t have enough of an ice cream trail!

I’m looking for a book about a gigantic bird that wore an even bigger hat. The hat was so big you couldn’t see the birds face, just her legs, and all the animals came to live on her hat. They wore clothes and built houses, and the animals were very detailed/anatomically correct even though they were wearing people clothes. They decorated the hat with long ribbons and pins and bobbles, things that would be easy for small animals to decorate with. I think the name was like Mrs. Perrigrew/Perrigrine/something with a P, and the cover was her big straw hat covered in ribbons.

It was about a young boy who is a servant to a wizard. He’s also kind of studying under the wizard. The wizard is very mean to him actually. The only other plot detail I remember is that the young boy would often have to make the wizard his meals which included “hotcakes”. It also had illustrations scattered throughout. I’m looking for a children’s book about spiders. The cover and every page (as in two pages you could see at once) were filled up with a whole picture. I’m not sure if it was painted or coloured drawing but the pictures were very realistic. Each double page showed a different spider in their habitat. The cover had a spider on a green… I want to say bush but my memory fails at this point but it was a darkish green colour (colour is Australian spelling). I had the book around late 90’s – early 00’s. I remember that one double page had a spider in a wheat field and another had a picture of one of those spiders that uses web as a net. Each picture was very detailed and realistic, it wasn’t cartooney or stylised, it was going for realism. I can’t remember what was written, I don’t know how educational it’s was supposed to be.

I’m looking for a book series that I read in elementary school (early 2000’s) but the only book in the series that I can remember is about a boy and his friend finding a book on how to leave their bodies, the boys try what the book says and the main boy is able to do it and explores around town and can see into people’s dreams. He runs into one of his teachers while she’s meditating and he asks her how to return to her body but she was unhelpful. When he goes back to his room he go sees that his dad shifted the book to the next page that tells him to just get into the same position as his body and sink back into it. Any leads would be helpful!

It sounds like some variation of The Old Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle. There are several versions:

The Old Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle by Margaret Read MacDonald: “In this British variant of a traditional tale, an ungrateful woman who complains constantly about her house is granted increasingly grandiose wishes by a fairy.”

The Old Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle by Rumer Godden: in this version, it’s a magical, wish-granting fish instead of a fairy.

Veronica Who Live in a Vinegar Bottle by Sue Whiting: “This book is a retelling of a folk tale in which a woman is never satisfied with her lot. A fairy improves her situation, but the woman continues to complain. She is eventually sent back to live in the vinegar bottle where she started.”

Hello there. My friend is hunting for a ( she thinks) a 1970’s childrens picture book that had a big tree trunk on the cover. The tree grew big and hairy with primary coloured branches. Also the tree would hide things in its branches. She isn’t sure if the book was published in Australia/New Zealand as she thinks because of its 4 word title ending with the word tree & with a sort of Billybong word in it sounded like it could be from that part of the world . Thank you in advance x

I’m hunting for an anthology storybook my mother read to me when I was very small. It had that old golden orange hard cover with something pressed into it and the most amazing (in my memory) illustrations throughout. The only fragments I have of the stories are there was a girl with a swing that she used to swing up into the stars and there were magic horses, maybe from a carousel?

So I don’t know if this is a book/short story or an episode of something but basically the story is there’s an older probably like preteen brother who lays down his baby sibling and the baby dies presumably from suffocating. The death is definitely caused by the baby I think laying on its stomach because the brother didn’t know it was supposed to lay on its back. Possibly Vice versa and the baby choked on like spit up or something. But it was definitely the brother put the baby down the wrong way. I think you don’t find out it was the brother’s fault until later but not sure. I really can’t remember anything else about it and I only vividly remember like a picture of the nursery in my head but I don’t know if that’s from an actual scene like from a tv show or if it’s just a vivid picture I conjured while reading. Any leads are appreciated!

Hi. There’s a book I just cannot remember the name of and I cannot seem to find it on Google or Reddit or anywhere else. At most, it was written before 2001 and I’m pretty sure it’s a kids book it had to be. I remember there’s a little puppy who lives either in a toy store or beside it in the alley. The puppy is seen by a little girl who gives him animal crackers to eat then goes away. The puppy goes to sleep and is woken up by the smell of smoke. He realizes it’s coming from the toy store (I think) and starts barking really loud. The firehouse near the toy store comes and puts the fire out and I think they adopt the puppy after they put the fire out. Hope this is enough information for somebody to find this book. Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

I am looking for a YA book that I read a few years back. A girl wanted to get into her dream academy because her late mother went there. She gets in and has a philosophy class where her teacher hates her right out of the gate. The class has to sit in these virtual reality pods and do a simulation where a baby in a stroller is on the tracks and they have to decide whether to leave it or push a grown man in front to stop the cart. This girl finds out the dean is evil and meets a guy who has a hideout in the local cemetary for his band. She finds out the school killed her mother for discovering the secrets and evil technology the dean was making. She ends up in the underground hideout for the school with the guy and they have to hack the computer or something to save the day. Cannot remember the name for the life of me.

Old Childrens book, don’t remember anything but the cover. It was a Victorian style cover with a girl with curls on the book. It was thin, but panoramic style, hard cover but softer than a hardback book. I was born in 1979 and had it as a child. Beautiful cover, the girl was wearing a lacey Victorian type dress. Sorry I don’t remember any more details.

I’m trying to find a book for a friend. She read it when she was 8-11years old between 1970-1973. It was about a girl who baked cookies and it included a sugar cookie recipe. She loved those cookies and I would like to find it for her.

I am looking for a book that I read around the year 2005. The main plot of the book focused on a single mother and her son around Christmas time. In this book, the mother had a special heart shaped locket (or some sort of golden necklace) and the son liked baseball or baseball cards. For Christmas, the mother sells her necklace in order to pay for her son’s baseball card Christmas present, and the son sells his baseball item to buy a gold chain for his mother. In the end, they get all of the items back.
The edition I had was quite small – it fit in my 5-year-old hands and the book was gold, with the picture of a gold heart-shaped locket on a red pillow.
I’ve been looking for this book/its title for ages and I would appreciate any help!

Looking for a children’s library book my siblings and I loved in the late 50’s-early 60’s. The book itself could be older. Somber looking little book with gray hardback cover. About a mouse in a house. He comes upon a cheese and a cat. The moon also makes an appearance. Illustrated mainly in black and white with a few pops of red and perhaps green eyes on the cat. Any help appreciated!

The series is Tim and the Hidden People by Sheila K McCullagh.

The series starts with Tim and Tobias – Magic in the Wind.

The book with the talisman in the title is The Wild Witches and the Talisman.

My mom said she’s been searching for a book she used to read to me as a kid.. I don’t remember anything about it, but here’s the information I’ve remembered her saying. Hoping to find it and get it for her as a Christmas present.

She said it’s about a boy who has a bunch of stuff in his pocket. One of those things was a rocket. She also said there was a “bad guy” in the book who follows the boy through out it. This is all I’ve got.

I’d like to see what ideas you guys may have! I’m 22 as a reference, so it is at least 8-10 years old if not more.

I’m looking for a picture book I had in the early 2000’s – late 90’s? It’s about a pig who is really stressed out so she is walking around town, and goes to get a malt as a shop somewhere. I think the cover was turquoise?

I would have said The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan, but that’s too recent.

Hoping for help with a book title. I read it in the 1970’s. It was about an older child who was sent to live with their grandparents (?) for the summer at their estate. Cousins they hadn’t known before were there as well. There was a fire at nearby and something about a falcon and it’s owner/trainer befriending the child. Other mysterious occurrences in the forest. We learn that the adults hosted the children in order to decide who should inherit the estate.

Hi, I’m looking for a book I was read in the 90s. There is a duck/goose and she wears and hat. And she goes around with a little bear, and they sit in a rocking chair while she reads him a book.
It was my favorite. My mom passed away last year and I didn’t get a chance to ask her what it was called. I’ve been looking all over the internet and I can’t find it at all.

Epaminondas and His Auntie, by Sara Cone Bryant.

Epaminondas and His Auntie by Sarah Cone Bryant, or an adaptation of it. Epaminondas was a little black boy in the original book. (Also, it was a puppy – not a kitten – that he acidentally drowned.)

In the 1950s, one adaptation of Epaminondas was The Little Boy Who Tried to Obey from The Golden Book of Nursery Tales, edited by Elsa Jane Werner. In this version, the boy is unnamed, referred to only as “the little boy” – and he is white.

See pictures below for covers and illustrations from several versions of both Epaminondas and The Golden Book of Nursery Tales, including the dead puppy scene:

I should have said also that I don’t think it’s a novel… Just a short story with illustrations. Thanks for trying though! It’s been driving me batty ever since I had kids! I want to share it with them! They love Brambly Hedge 🙂

“My bear, I like–do you?” by:Thomson, Ruth, 1949-

A bear who likes all sorts of things –like crunching hot toast and being a ghost– wonders if the reader likes them too.

I’m trying to remember a book read to us by our teacher in the mid 80s. There was a girl, possibly a princess who would receive a birthday gift from a fairy each year. I think they were charms for a bracelet or necklace. Possibly tears or pearls.
