Hi, I’m looking for a book that I read in the last few years of primary school (8-11) about a story set in native America (or about an indigenous peoples, they were a tribe). This was about 6 years ago? I don’t think the book was very old, but I’m not sure.
They are making the yearly journey (towards the sun?) as the time has come again. The main character has a bad leg, normally he would have been killed as a child however because his dad is the tribe leader he isn’t. He has a sister. After they embark on their journey, his dad dies trying to rescue some sheep as they cross a river. Eventually, he gets thrown out of the tribe because of his bad leg. He struggles for a while, then meets an old lady that was also thrown out of the tribe because she was too old. She is really good at weaving and finding food- they help each other survive. They also journey after the main tribe together. Later, their tribe is hunted by another tribe and the men are killed, the women taken as slaves and wives.
Later at some point he tamed a hawk. He may have also met a girl from an ice like tribe? They exchange materials; his weaving for something else. The old woman may have died at some point? This is all I really remember. I’ve been trying to find this book for years – if anyone knows it that would help so much! Its really annoying because I remember so many details yet don’t remember any names lol.
I’m looking for an old kids book about Germs. I am fairly certain it was called Germs Make Me Sick, but the one I find online is different and from the 1980s. The one I’m looking for had a white cover (in the library edition) and large (red?) letters. It was from the 1970s I believe. I last saw it at the Queens Public Library in Woodside, NY. I did go look many years later, but they didn’t have a record of it, and I can only ever find the newer versions online. Even the 1980s version is too new. 🙂
I am looking for an old story which I think was called “Who Is This?” and it had 2 kids looking at blacked out/shadowed shapes. The kids were guessing what the shadow was, for example on one page, they guessed that the shape was a palm tree, but it was really a Hollywood starlet with a big hat. I think there was also one that looked like a teapot but was really a cat maybe?

Like others, I had a favorite book as a young girl but cannot remember the title and never knew the author. It was published in the late ’50s or early ’60s. It was a children’s chapter book and it was about a young girl who had a tiger skin rug in her bedroom that came to life. I don’t believe it was the popular book Tiger Skin Rug because this title was published later. Can anybody help me? It was such a memorable book…memorable in every way except for the title! Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I’m trying to recall a book but to be honest my recollection is pretty vague. The book was about a boy/maybe an animal that finds a baby and is trying to find a home for it. He takes the baby to a number of different characters to which their reply relates to their occupation. E.g. “will you want this baby” pilot: “can it fly a plane” “no” pilot: well then I don’t want it. Taxi driver: “can it drive a car? Then I don’t want it” etc. Similar theme of can it do this, then I don’t want it until finally somebody will take in this baby/pet. Sorry for the poor recollection. It’s been years….
Looking for a book from mid-60s. I believe it was a compilation of stories involving dogs/puppies with illustrations. The most memorable story, or only, was about a puppy waiting for his master to come home from school. It was in verse, “All day I sit around the house lonely as can be. There’s no one in the house or yard to throw a ball to me. At four o clock my day begins, I run and jump so fast. I bark and chase my tail cuz you’re home from school at last. That was my favorite. Hopefully, someone will recall this book. Thanks!
Hi there, I’d be so grateful if anyone could help with identifying the following 3 kids books – I have vivid memories of them from the late 80s/early 90s but can’t recall the titles. It’s driving me nuts!
1. A late 80s (I think!) book featuring rhymes/little stories on each page including one like ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair’ and something about the moon being like runny cheese. The illustrations were like Babette Cole’s work and the book had the vibe of her book ‘The Slimy Book’ – the pictures were kind of grotesque like some of her books are. I’ve Googled ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ but all the titles and images it brings up aren’t the right book.
2. An illustrated book about a mum who is super different to all the other mums at school. The kids and parents whisper that she’s a witch. I think the mum had black hair and a thin face. The book ends with the kids coming over and seeing that she isn’t a witch at all but has prepared a delicious afternoon tea with cakes and jellies etc. I can confirm that this book is definitely NOT ‘I think my mum’s a witch’ by Amanda Loveseed or ‘The Trouble with Mum’ by Babette Cole.
3. It’s a stunningly illustrated, almost etheral book about two little children who catch a train to the seaside with some fairies after meeting them in the forest. I think it’s a red train and the train tickets are like chocolate biscuits you can eat.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Smart house that continued to clean after there were no humans
I am looking for a book that I read in the 1970s — back when you ordered books from a paper order sheet. All I remember is that it was about when you are sick you get sympathy from others. I can’t remember if it was meant to be humorous or if it was serious and meant to be a teaching lesson. I feel like it was meant to be humorous but I can’t remember anything about it. I have wanted to find it, because I really loved it–but don’t know why. If anyone can help…
Hello, been looking for a book that was a favorite of mine as a child. I don’t remember a lot about it. It was illustrated mostly in bright pink, white and black. The story was about a little girl with black hair. She had a favorite doll, I can still see the doll in my mind. There was mention of a thunderstorm, hot chocolate and her grandmother in the story. Hoping someone will recognize this – I have a young granddaughter I’d like to pass the story down to. This probably would have been in the 70’s.
When I was a kid (I’m 48 now) my family had a picture book about a character called Hirple/Hurpel/Herpel (spelling?) Throughout the book Herpell didn’t want to X because then he would have to do Y. For example he wouldn’t sleep in his bed because then he would have to make it. I remember a large box is delivered to his house and instead of opening it he buries it. I thought the title of the box was Hurple but maybe we just called it the Hurple book. It has become somewhat legendary in our family with anyone displaying “why bother” tendencies to be referred to as “Hirple”. I grew up in New Zealand and the book really could have come from anywhere. Not much to go on I’m afraid.
There’s Mr. Pudgins, but I think that’s just one book.
Looking for an old children’s book about this little boy describing a spider but the father thinks the child is describing his pregnant mother. It’s very cute and funny. I read it as a child but can’t recall the name of it.

You’re welcome! Glad I could help – and thank you for posting back!
So there’s this picture book from my childhood between 90s early 2000s? That I can’t remember the title or the author of it. It was a about a house that had many different weird unique rooms. Ones that I remember where was a room where it was an upside down room and another was a like a indoor garden room with grass flooring and I also remember this big brown arm chair in the book too!
It’s been bugging me for so long please help ahah.
Hi! The only part I remember of this book is a “method” for finding lost objects, in which the situation of the loss was duplicated as much as possible. E.g., if you lost a pocketed object on a walk, put a similar item in your pocket and walk the same route–you may lose the item at the same place as they other, thus finding it. If this stuck in anyone else’s head, maybe the title of the book did too. Thank you!
Hey there,
I’ve been looking for a book for more than 30 years that I remember reading as a child in the 80s/90s. It was a story about 2 groups of tiny troll-like creatures that live in the English (European?) countryside and go to war with each other. In appearance they look something in shape like furrier brown hippos or Moomins (but the illustration style was completely different to Tove Jansen’s). The illustration style was meticulously detailed, and showed labelled elements of the english countryside: for example, a page might show a cutaway of a hedge, showing all the animals and berries one might find in it, carefully labelled. The ‘troll’ war went on against these backdrops, living in hedges and underground. The two armies were quite different, one dressed in spiky black armour, while the other was more passive and I seem to remember used morning star maces with hotwater bottles instead of spikey balls (!) as weapons. They both rode animals into battle.
Would love to be able to get hold of it, I’ve never seen something similar!
Hi, I’m trying to find this book I read in the 4th grade. From what I can remember, it was a girl with long blonde hair who has reoccurring nightmares. She thinks it’s like a dead deer or some sort of animal, but it turns out to be her dad who killed himself when she was younger. She ends up cutting her hair because of it. I’ve been looking for years!
“Brother, brother: go find your brother!” That was a method used by a character to find lost objects. Lose a quarter through a hole in your pocket? Put another quarter in your pocket and repeat your activities and note when it falls out, because the other one could be there. That fun, silly idea is all I remember from the book. Maybe it stuck in someone else’s head too.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
From chapter 8: “But it occurred to him that he might as well have the marble he had just thrown away, and therefore he went and made a patient search for it. But he could not find it. Now he went back to his treasure–house and carefully placed himself just as he had been standing when he tossed the marble away; then he took another marble from his pocket and tossed it in the same way, saying:
“Brother, go find your brother!”
He watched where it stopped, and went there and looked. But it must have fallen short or gone too far; so he tried twice more. The last repetition was successful. The two marbles lay within a foot of each other.”
Hello I’m looking for the title of the story about Tully the dog, I can’t remember much but it’s about 2 boys trying to find a dog name Tully! Hope you can help I would like to share the story for my kids! Thanks
I’m looking for this book about a young girl and her father on the road , i think either her mother left or died , there was something about a collarbone , and the word “chickadee and she a love interest ,and something about a poor family ,
I need the name of a book. I know this is a long shot but I’ve tried everything else.
It was a wonderful book. I read it in fourth or fifth grade. A children’s book. About two close friends – maybe their names were jamal and ahmed? – I may be wrong. The story is set in india – and starts with them looking at trinkets on an old blind man’s cart. They try to steal one but he somehow catches them. Idk.
They got off with a warning? They bought a ring maybe? There was the old man’s young daughter there too? I forget if she’s relevant to the plot.
There was a part where there was a random dog fight too – not relevant to the plot.
The friends get seperated and are sent to two very different households. One is sent to a place where he has to cook and clean, the other one has better luck and he is taught skills or something idk.
And it had something to do with a haunted haveli? There is mystery and danger.
I have been looking for the name of this book or the author for years now. If any of this resonates with you, please please please tell me.
In fourth grade my math teacher would read a book about these kids getting sucked into another plane with monsters and they had a tape and tape player and they were surviving and trying to fond their way back home and the book cam with an actual tape that had songs and I remember one where a woman sings “Look before you leap” this was around the early 2000s (2003-2005).
There seem to be a good many that match your second request. Here are some that I found.

I have been looking for a book for many years that my brother and I used to read when we were little. I just remember the character “Maluver Hopquick.” I don’t even know if I’m spelling the name correctly. I remember it being part of a larger compilation of children’s’ stories. Does this character name ring a bell to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I’ve been searching for a certain children’s storybook from my childhood. I hardly remember anything about it, but it was about a young child who didn’t want to drink his pink medicine. Everytime he drank the medicine he would have nightmares.
The nightmares were about giant, scary animals that would scare him. There was a rabbit that threatened to cook him into soup, an owl the hooted at him, and that’s about all I can remember about it.
It would be very much appreciated if anyone could tell me the name of the book. No one believes that the story ever existed and I want to prove them wrong. There’s no way I could have just imagined the story as a child.
Here is the first one:

Sonny Elephant by Madge Bigham.
“Story takes place in India and is about the adventures of Sonny Elephant, a baby elephant, and his mother Mumsy and his daddy Papsy.”
“This book is about domesticating wild elephants to become the workhorses for men. It describes the world from the point of view of a family of elephants, for the most part, and also from a human family, particularly a father and son, Tom Tom.”

Hi Chanda,
can you please look into my query? you will find it below. (saidb)
thanks!!
Hi, I’ve been searching for this one particular book for so many years and I swear it’s the hardest thing to ever find from my childhood. It also doesn’t help that I don’t remember much about it! Ok, so here’s what I can recall: I read it in middle school, which was 2004-2006. The only details I can recall of the story was that the beginning of the book had a family and their pet(?) gorilla emergency land in their plane over a jungle or maybe an island? They all got separated and have to endure different dangers to get back together. I THINK there might have been dinosaurs and cybernetic stuff in it too? It honestly reminds me of Jonny Quest, but with no relation. I think it was a Scholastic book, but I’m not 100% certain of that. If anyone could help I’d be so appreciative as this has been driving me so mad for so many years lol. I’ve found all other books, movies, cartoons, games, etc. that I’ve wanted except this one!
In 1968, my 2nd grade teacher read from a book everyday. I remember loving the story. It was a story about three elephants ( mom, dad and baby) someone or something called Tom-Tom (not sure if it was the boy in the story or the monkey), I think the boys family took care of the elephants, and there was a monkey.
I would love to find a copy of this book. Can anyone help? It was a chapter book and had no pictures or at least she didn’t show them to us.
Hello,
I’m looking for 2 books from my childhood. It was late 80’s-mid 90’s but the books could have been from earlier. The first was about a stuffed bunny that gets left upstairs during a birthday party and is sad and I believe falls under the bed (its not velveteen rabbit). The second is a Christmas pop up, I’m pretty sure it was the night before christmas but this specific pop up had drawers and doors that opened.
Thank you!
Hi, I’m trying to recall a series of books which were written in the 50s 60s or early 70s about an uncle who would baby sit, and he and the kids would have unusual adventures. Our teacher read us these books in 1972.
A book from the late 60’s or early ’70’s. It was a memoir written by a young African American boy, and in it he would frequently say “I likes my mammy, I likes my pappy”. At the end of the book we find out that the young author died in a car accident shortly after writing the book. It was a beuatiful autobiographical story. Please help me find it.
im looking for a childhood book for sentimental reasons. i cant remember exactly when i read it, but i know it was published in the time frame of 2009-2015. all i can remember about the plot is the main character had a weird name (i really feel like its a color), and she and her family (mother, older sister, and i think a younger brother) moved into a house their grandmother or aunt gave them that was near a coast. she didnt get along with her sister, and had a crush on her sisters boyfriend, towards the end of a book she saw her sister almost get assaulted by her bf, then mc runs away from home and almost drowns in the ocean they live near for some reason i cant remember. any and all help would be appreciated, thank you in advance!
I’m remembering a story/fable about 2 brothers. One would say please and the other would not. So the please went to live in the other boys mouth so he would be used. We listened to this when my kids were young and now my son was as.king about it.
I can’t find it any where.
Was it a chapter book? You might try Magic in the Park, by Ruth Chew.

Chanda thanks for helping! Unfortunately it’s not the story I’m searching for. It’s not like that. All the wind directions gater together and if i remember correctly, especially the northern wind has a darker story of creating storms at sea. As for the girl, um not even sure she’s in the book.
I do really appreciate your answer though! (:
Yeah, I figured it was a long shot at best. I hope you find the book you are looking for!
I’m just going to throw this out there, because it has a few common elements (a relatively uncommon/unknown book and the wind telling stories to a girl) – maybe take a look at What The Wind Told by Betty Boegehold?
A little girl named Tossy is sick in bed. so the wind visits her on six successive days and tells her stories about the people in the windows across the way. There is an old woman leaning on a cushion in her window, because every day at 10:00 her floor turns into a pond, two timid monsters named Drool and Gool who are terrified of everything, and an old dog who sits at a typewriter all day, typing the names of things. When he is hungry, he types the names of foods – and eats the words. There is also the Plant Family, including Mother and Father Plant, Grandmother Plant, Aunt Eudora Cactus, Uncle Runner Bean – and all the little potted plant children in the windowsill. There is also the Dirter family – who live in filth and come out at night to dirty up the city. Finally, the last window is always dark because that’s where Darkness lives, so she has a place to go in the daytime. There is no story on the seventh day because the wind does not blow – and Tossy is well and can go outside to play.

Hi!
I’m looking for a picture book about the wind directions, probably from before 2000 it’s quite unknown coz Google didn’t get me far and non of my friends used to have it. I can’t remember a lot but it used to be one of my favorites, its for children from like 8 y/o I think but can be enjoyed when older too. Its about all the directions of the wind so 8 (could be just 4). If I remember correctly they (the directions of the wind) come together in a house/tree and tell their stories and could get a bit dark (maybe there was a girl involved). The pictures where beautiful, water paintish, i remember a lot of green they where quite artistic the style is somewhat uncommon for children’s books.
Hope someone can help me out!
Hello,
I’ve been trying to track down a picture book that I read in 2000-2001 when I was in primary school in Australia.
I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the book. The only thing I can remember is it was a hard cover picture book, there was something about a young person going to a city in the clouds or something? Also something to do with a key? And I remember something about an old man possibly a wizard type man? It wouldn’t be more than 50 pages long probably less. The style of art is almost like the style that is used in Gotye’s film clip for “Hearts a Mess”.
I’ve searched and searched google, libraries and op shops. As my memory is very clouded I just don’t have enough information to go on. Hoping someone on here can help me as I realise the details are scare.
Thanks!
A Penny for Candy by Louise Lawrence Devine.
“Cute little story about Jonathan Percival Pinkerton Jr. finding a penny and gathering many friends on his walk to the candy store. Because he kept doing somersaults, by the time he got to the store his pennies had disappeared.”

Oh, Chanda!!!! You just made me cry!!!! The mint green background is the one!!!! I have one son who is 36 years old who looked exactly like this Jonathan, but I named him Jesse! You just made my day! What a wonderful website!!! Thank you so very much!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad I could help. And thank you for taking the time to post back. It really means a lot to know that I’ve been able to help someone reconnect with an old favorite!
something by edward gorey, perhaps?
Welcome, Colleen!
Hello, my sisters and I remember being read a book by our Grandmother in the 1950’s about an artist angel who was given the task of naming all the animals. Beautifully illustrated. I especially remember the magnificent lion.
I think you want Tomás takes charge, also titled Children in Hiding, by Charlene Joy Talbot. Fernanda is his sister.
I believe it’s a short story, its been 25 years since I thought of this book.
But I remember a drawn picture of a knight or warrior with long hair and was holding a stick with a heart on it. I have googled everything I can and can’t find anything.
I have been searching for a book I read in elementary school. I remember it have clouds and a clock on the cover. It was about a place between heaven and earth. It told the story’s of the people and their jobs in this in between universe. I’ve googled and haven’t had any luck. Please help!!
Hi I’m looking for a book that I obsessed over as a child. I would of read it approximately between 1973 and 1976. It was set in a park and a boy befriends an old man that changes between a man and a tree. Please it’s driving me insane that I can’t remember, especially since I must of read it at least a 100 times
Hello there!
I’m looking for a childrens book that i read in the uk as a kid in 2007/8. it looked like water colour painting, like the type of graphic you would see in “The Snowman” that has the famous song “we’re walking in the air”
it was about an emperor (tibetian or chinese) who sent his two sons on a hunt for a lost treasure somewhere in the mountains but instructed them not to lose one another so they can both bring the treasure to him. one brother was old and one was young and they were both tibetian or chinese princes. on the journey, the younger prince deviated from the path as he was most spontaneous. he came across a stone dragon statue and hit it or rubbed it once or 3 times and out came golden bricks or boulders from the dragons mouth. it came to a point where so many golden boulders came out that they started to fall down the mountain and cause danger to the older brother who was just unknowingly below the statue on the mountain. the younger brother then realised this and became really worried for his brother because he was about to be injured by the golden boulders. the younger brother became remorseful and i think made a wish that it never would happen, then, a miracle happened. before the golden boulders would crush his older brother below the cliff/mountain, the boulders turned to stone or ash and stopped before they could hit him. and the moral of the story was that family is more precious than wealth, so dont run after temporary pleasures, i believe.
tips: the dragon was stone grey; mountaineous landscape, golden boulders, etc
this is all i can remember, please help me find it >insert crying face< Thanks xx
I am looking for a picture book that is about accessing a child-sized space in a house through a child-sized door. No adults can enter. Inside they have it designed for kids with furniture and toys their size. Published from the 70s-90s. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Hi I am looking for a 1970’s or 80’s youth fiction, fantasy novel book I recall reading it in 1992 at the latest. I have strong memories of it being about a boy who meets? a girl and they have the ability to fly over long distances to a far off place, flying over green fields for days and days, stopping now and then, before reaching a distant, polluted kingdom which is ruled by a fat, sickly man. The boy and girl? escape and at the end they are swimming in crystal clear waters of a lake among lush green fields again. Sorry so vague but strong themes of green vs pollution, health/sickness.
Could it be Howl’s Moving Castle?
Hi there! Looking for a kids book from the 90’s. I may be putting two books together in my mind, but I am sure this one got me in trouble on my first day of kindergarten when I dumped all of the water from the water table into the sand table to make a mud castle! I remember a book with a mud castle, where the little boy made a beautiful castle, decorated it with rocks and sticks and his dinky toys. I would love to read it to my son! There may have been a component of a mud puddle monster too but that may be another book that I am thinking of. Any tips?! Thnx!
Hello. I’m looking for a little storybook from about 1960. The illustrations are of a little redheaded boy with a long name that starts with Jonathan….help!!! Jonathan Jinglehopper..?? He hops down the sidewalk looking for adventure, finding a penny, etc. He has bright red hair and blue eyes in the illustrations. Smaller in size than a standard golden book, about as long in page count. The title is not coming to me! Thanks. Very interesting website. I am 66 and hope to help others here find a special childhood book.
Hi. This is vague—I’m looking for a children’s book (or books?), published between 1968 and 1974; I think it was about, or included something about, a king and a dragon; the king looked a bit like Nogbad the Bad but without the horns on the helmet, like a tall viking helmet; wore armour; the illustrations were very rich in colour, deep, vibrant browns, greens, blues, reds etc, may have been done in oil pastels, or a mixed media of pastels, oil paints and ink; illustrations were full page/full bleed; if published late 60s, then most likely printed and/or published in Canada or U.S.. Thanks 🙂
I am looking for a book about a girl going to the zoo. She wakes up early then gets on a train to the zoo. She sees meadows on the train ride and sheep in the meadows and so on. The book was a hard cover. This was about two decades ago.
I’m looking for a book that I read in elementary school. This was about 12 years ago and was present in my school’s small library. It was a book about monsters/creatures, and featured quite grotesque illustrations of these monsters. There was also a small excerpt on each page about the monster but I don’t necessarily remember the context of them. I think I vaguely remember it also being an ABCs sort of deal but it’s very hazy. Looking back, this picture book probably shouldn’t belong in a children’s library but I’m quite curious to find it again.
Hi! I hope you can help me find a children’s picture book from a friend’s childhood.
A good witch needs to select her black cat. A basket of cats contains lots of cats but only one black cat. She flies in on her broom and selects the black cat. They make each other happy.
I have spent hours searching for this, but my search foo isn’t working. Thanks for any help!
I am looking for what used to be a fairly popular children’s book. A boy and man are trapped at sea through some series of events (I *think* they were after a treasure or something and end up swept put to sea and get Shanghaid by pirates or something). They both end up branded and many years later they make it back to the island – the man dies helping the boy (who is now a man, I believe) make it back to shore. The boy is able to find the shore because of a candle that a girl on the island has left in the window for him. He is happy to learn that she has never married, waiting for him. They get married and she tells him the brand will always remind her of the name of their town, which is also the name of the book. I think the boy had lived with his aunt or someone – seems like I remember her making candles and sending the boy after supplies of some sort… I think he ends up learning about something in a pub (a là Treasure Island) and I *think* that is what he was going after when he ended up at sea (but I very well could be mixing it up with Treasure Island in my head)… the title was the name of the town, I think it was two syllables …
The Brave Lion (I Can Read by Myself) by Diane Jackman, T. Hancock
As the toys in the toy shop came to life, they found they were in

danger, but quick thinking aroused the very sleepy lion who came to the
rescue and became a hero.
Wow! Thank you so much! May I ask how you found it so quickly?!
You’re welcome. I entered some keywords into this site and it was one of the books that came up.

I’m looking for a book about a little girl named Jamie who went to stay with her grandma. She did lots of things including eat pancakes and get syrup in her hair. The book is long and horizontal with a pink cover. Any ideas?

“Mouse, Mouse, Go Out of My House,” By Elizabeth Low
The little house has been closed up all winter, but now
it’s spring and Toby and Aunt Bee are opening the house, getting it
clean and ready for the summer people. One by one they find the animals
who’ve been living there — a squirrel, a bat, a mouse and more. But
when the house is clean and all the animals are out in the woods, Toby
wishes there was something left to play with. Then he finds a surprise.
Hi! I am looking for a book my grandmother used to have when I was little in the late 90’s. There was a gradfather who was expecting his grandaughter to come sleep over. she kept calling him back with all these food requests for friends she was going to bring with her. He cooks up this whole big meal and desserts, and it turns out in the end they were only stuffed animals she brought over. any ideas? 🙂 thanks in advance!
You’re welcome – and thank you for posting back!
I’m so glad I could help you! Yeah – those old stories always had a lot more impact when told around a campfire… on a dark night… with the wind and night noises in the background.. Much creepier than just reading them from a book in a safe, well-lit room!
Thank you for taking the time to post back!
I’m looking for a drawing book I had in 1998. It was, I think, targeted towards girls. It had instructions for drawing people (including proportions), flowers, scenes, etc; and also proper penmanship and choosing nibs for pens. I changed my handwriting at 13 because of this book!
Hello! I’m looking for a children’s book about a toy shoppe where after the owner leaves the toys come alive. A part of the plot is a toy lion named Rory/Roary injures his tail and is bandaged up by another toy. Thank you!
It could be Leo Politi’s Mieko, 1970, which should be easy to find on Abebooks. Expensive in collectible condition but there are some without jackets etc..From our notes: Mieko, whose parents had named her “Beautiful Graceful Girl” wanted to become the queen of the Nisei week parade to please them, though she was much too young. A sweet story set in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of Los Angeles in the 60’s. https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?cm_sp=SearchF-_-topnav-_-Results&ds=20&kn=mieko%20politi&sts=t
I’m looking for a book you could read aloud to a child. It was published before 1970. It’s about a family that finds a mouse in their summer house. There is a refrain … mouse, mouse get out of my house … and probably a maid chases the mouse all over the house. So book was illustrated. It was in a public library in Canada, in the children’s department.
hi, I’m looking for a kids fantasy book where an orphans brother convinces him that the world is flat and there is something on the other side. The other side is a world where people have wings instead of hands and they’re kind of birds with very good eyesight and so on. To get to the world they have to go through a drinking fountain ?that opens up very rarely. The brother disappears and then comes back to bring the orphan with him to the world where their parents are too. sorry this is a confusing explanation:)
Perhaps The Blanket by John Burningham?
“When it’s bedtime and you can’t find your blanket, you must look all over the house until it turns up.”

Hi, I am looking for a book that’s about a ginger cat that is scared of a thunderstorm so he goes around the house to find different places to sleep where he’ll be safe – I only remember him going in his bathtub which he doesn’t like and then in the garage which has a big spider in that scares him, he has a sister that’s grey and white and I believe he is called Tom
I vividly remember there being a pop up section at the end of his room, if anyone knows the name of this book I would be so grateful as I’ve been looking for EVER to find it
Once: a Lullaby, by Canadian poet bpNichol, illustrated by Anita Lobel.
Hello! I have béen trying to track down a book that I read in approximately 1970. I believe it was titled “Miko’s Gift”, about a young Japanese girl who had moved with her family from Osaka to the United States. I am sure it was published after WW2. The story tells of her family’s traditional celebrations, such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, and her struggle to find a unique flower or arrangement to show at school. Any help would be so appreciated.
That sounds like it might be The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg – though the girl on the couch isn’t a match.
There is a picture of a boy in bed and bright floating lights (tiny UFOs?) both in his room and outside the window The title of the picture is: Archie Smith, Boy Wonder and the caption reads: “A tiny voice asked, ‘Is he the one?”‘

Hi everyone. I remember an olive green book from the late 60’s. It had different stories. One was about a cookie rolling down a hill. Any one have a memory?

Beany and Scamp by Lisa Bassett.
It’s not a rabbit but a squirrel – and the squirrel is the one who has lost his nuts.
The little bear “Beany” wants desperately to sleep yet stays awake to help his little friend squirrel “Scamp” find the nuts he had buried to get through the winter. The silly adventures they go through following Scamp’s treasure map and the way they are able to find their way home even though they are hopelessly lost are fun for children to figure out as the story is being read. The little fireside picnic (after the nuts are discovered under the mat outside Scamp’s door) is a cute celebration of friendship and a perfect treat for Beany before his winter nap.

I’m looking for a children’s book. It has a sing-songy rhythm that goes something along the lines of “Once I was a little mouse, baby mouse, little mouse. Once I was a little mouse, oops sail away”. Each page is a different animal, and the illustration is of the animal’s bedroom (everything in the bedroom represents that animal from the wallpaper to the shape of the headboard, to the feet of the bed.) Does this ring a bell at all? I would be so appreciative to find it. here was a mouse, a duck, a fish…. And then it ends with a little boy and a little girl. It’s the illustrations that were just amazing
Hello I am looking for a book that it was pictures of random settings and there was one sentence on each of them briefly describing the photo. One of them had a girl on the couch and a monster on the bottom and it said “she will never know” and that’s all I remember. Also one photo was a boy in his bed and you could see the UFO about to take over out side his window. Pls help me find it!
I have this book I will find it! And Ill tell you the name!
Oh my gosh thank you!!! That would be amazing
Did you ever find the book hahaha ?
Moondogs by Daniel Kirk
“Will loves looking at moon through his telescope. His mom and dad think his interest in the heavens is a good thing, but also want him to have a pal on earth. They suggest getting a dog – to which Will replies he wants a moondog! He has seen them through his telescope and they look terrific. So he sets out in his homemade space ship to find a moondog to bring home, but unbeknownst to him, a stray dog hitches a ride in the rocket. When Will encounters the man in the moon he is saved by the scrappy little puppy from earth making them furever friends.”
That is the book 🙂 thank you for your help!
We had a children’s book when I was little (I’m 43). It had a brother and a little sibling in a crib. The mom was occupied (with guests, I think) and the brother brought a cookie to the little sibling and sang “For she/he’s a jolly good fellow!” That’s all I can remember. I’ve been trying to figure out what book this is for years.
A long shot, but Hilaire Belloc’s New Cautionary Tales also includes a story about a face that froze – but it’s a girl, Maria, rather than a boy. The story – told in verse – is titled Maria, Who Made Faces and a Deplorable Marriage. She made ugly faces as a child. Her face froze like that – so as an adult, despite being intelligent, accomplished, and wealthy, the only husband she could find was a a neighboring squire who was dull, offensive, poor – and blind.
You can read the story – and the rest of Belloc’s cautionary tales (Cautionary Tales for Children, New Cautionary Tales, The Bad Child’s Book of Beasts, More Beasts for Worse Children, and More Peers online here: https://archive.org/stream/hilairebellocsc00bell/hilairebellocsc00bell_djvu.txt
I’m looking for a kids book where a boy wants a pet dog from space so he goes to I believe Mars and finds a bunch of alien dogs but he doesn’t like any of them. He goes back home and finds out a Labrador or a golden retriever from earth had stowed away on his ship before he left for space. This dog becomes his dog
I’m looking for a book from my childhood. The child has misplaced their favorite blankie, and then checks all around the house to try to find it. Illustrations were simple and light colored…maybe minimalist. I would have been reading it in the early 80’s, but of course it could be older. Thank you.
Just a quick follow-up: you can read Charlie and His Kitten Topsy online at Open Library: https://openlibrary.org/works/OL7759023W/Charlie_and_his_kitten_Topsy?edition=charliehiskitten00maxw#editions-list
Not quite a match (no sister) but it might be worth taking a look at Charlie and His Kitten Topsy by Violet Maxwell and Helen Hill.
In the fifth story (How the Wind Changed) Charlie got up “on the wrong side of his bed” and was feeling cross. He came downstairs to breakfast with his face screwed up in a terrible frown, scowling at his Mother, his Daddy, and his Auntie. His Auntie warned him not to make such an awful face, because if the wind changed, his face might get stuck that way, but he paid her no attention and continued to scowl – and of course, the wind did change and his face got stuck that way for the day, making it hard for him to enjoy a special day at the circus and the candy shop with his uncle. Fortunately, the next morning the wind had changed again – and Charlie’s face had changed back.
The fourth story (How Charlie Took Root) is about how Charlie always dragged his feet when he went for a walk with his Mother and Auntie, lagging way behind them. His Auntie warned him that if he didn’t move his feet a little faster, he would take root like a tree – and sure enough, when Charlie again ignored his Auntie’s warning, his foot stuck fast to the ground. His Auntie tried to dig him out with a spade, but a policeman wouldn’t let her because it was against the law to dig up anything in the park. Poor Charlie was stuck there in the park for a number of days and nights, with his family bringing him food and visiting him during the daytime, but they had to leave when the park closed at night. His kitten, Topsy, stayed with him through the night – and, with the help of some squirrels, began digging, loosening the dirt around Charlie’s foot without the policeman noticing. Finally, Charlie was able to pull his foot out – roots and all – and the roots fell off once he was free.
Other stories in the book include How Charlie Became a Little Fish (Charlie doesn’t like to get out of the bathtub, and one day he turns into a little fish and is washed down the drain and out to sea, then caught and spends a number of days in a fishbowl on the living room table) and How Charlie Made Topsy Love Him (Jane (the cat) and Topsy (the kitten) did not like being around Charlie because he grabbed them and hugged them and squeezed them and carried them all the time, despite his Mother and Auntie telling him to put them down and leave them alone sometimes. Of course, Charlie learns that it’s no fun being picked up and held and squeezed constantly when he finds himself picked up, played with like a toy, kissed and cuddled and teased by a gigantic “little” girl. Finally, he escapes through a hole in her pocket and runs home – and, having learned his lesson, plays with his cats correctly and they learn to love him.
