55+ years ago read a book about a doll found in a peach pit–that’s all I can remember. Was a favorite book of mine from the library but can’t recall title. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Ok – found it. Dan Clark’s Puppies For Sale was released as a stand-alone children’s book, as well as being included in Chicken Soup for the Soul and being made into a short film.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XebVRGknTE
The story Puppies for Sale that the short film was based on was written by Dan Clark and published in Chicken Soup for the Soul.
From the ending of the story: “The store owner countered, “You really don’t want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies.” To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied, “Well, I don’t run so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!”
That sounds very similar to the short film Puppies for Sale by Robert Krauss, starring Jack Lemmon (1998).
“It’s a busy day along the city sidewalks as an elderly pet-shop owner hangs a sign, “Puppies For Sale.” Later, he’s in his back room when he hears the shop bell jingle signaling a customer has entered. It’s a lad in a baseball cap inquiring about the puppies. Four puppies bound in behind their mom, followed by a lagging fifth one with a congenital hip problem. That’s the puppy the boy chooses, and he puts some crumpled bills and loose coins on the counter as a down payment. The man tries to dissuade the boy from taking the imperfect pup, but the lad insists and gets down on the floor to play with his new pet. The owner gets a surprise – and a lesson.”

I had a book when I was a kid about a puppy at a pet store that only had one leg, the pet shop owner was scared he wouldn’t be able to find a kid who would want him since he couldn’t jump around and play like other puppies. Then a kid walks in one day and says he wants that one and the pet shop guy says “you don’t want this one, he can’t play like the other puppies.” Then the kid lifts up his pant leg to show a prosthetic leg and says “that’s ok, I can’t either.” I can’t find it anywhere on google
I’ve been looking for a book that seemed to be from the 60s or 70s, at least judging from the art style, that was about emotions, senses, relationships, kinda covering all the bases for teaching kids about being a person. The illustrations were the star though, it was a flowy pastel art nouveau kinda style. Everything looked really… soft. The book itself wasn’t very long but it had pretty big pages, probably to show off the art. I always thought it was called something like “the big book of you” or something but that’s never returned any searches so I might just be making that up. It was really gorgeous and I’d love to find it again to keep its memory alive
“the mystery of the haunted pool” by phyllis a. whitney? or “the mystery of the piper’s ghost” by zillah k. macdonald?
Possibly Why I Built the Boogle House by Helen Palmer?

I’m after three advanced children’s picture books:
1) Mum or big sister and baby brother live on a small ship with a goat/cow and garden on top.
2) Inheritance – two sisters get the same $$$ but one spends humbly, the other, proudly.
3) The island – blue shells are the island currency. Then they mine the island to destruction.
Has anyone read a book when they were young about two lizards I think that fell in love and then their owners fell in love too and at the end there was a double wedding
Thank you thank you for posting this! I’ve been trying to find the fairy oven story for so so long, it was an absolute favourite of mine and I’m so pleased I’ve found it thanks to you! I’ve found a copy online which I can’t wait to receive 🙂
Angela’s doll “Surshy” is in the first book, The Mitchells: Five for Victory, by Hilda van Stockum, and I assume the glasses part relates to her glasses-wearing sister Patsy (unless you are thinking of another glasses book). The other books are Canadian Summer and Friendly Gables.
I remember reading a book where a family puts a dog house in the back yard for their pet and then they keep on getting more and more and more pets and they build more additions and sections on the doghouse in the back yard until it’s a huge house with different windows for all the animals to stick their heads out. It could be from the 90s.
Could it be Richard Scarry’s Colors book?
As a child, I read two books about a family in Montreal. They were probably about a sixth-grade level. I was reading them in the 60s, but they were probably older than that. The editions in our school library had blue covers. I remember one of the characters was a girl who was near-sighted. She was excited when she finally got glasses, but then was disappointed because the pretty red geranium she though she saw in the distance was actually a discarded soup can. Another scene I recall is when another girl in the family thought a character in a song or rhyme she’d heard was named Sirshee, because she heard, “I’m going milking, sir,” she said. I loved the family and setting, but cannot remember the titles or authors. There may have been more books in the series.
Hi! I am looking for a book that I read when I was little. It was like a mystery/thriller kind of book and I remember the main theme centering around this pond that the house had. The book was black and had purple lettering and like almost a paisley/watercolor design. Thanks so much!
Please help before my remaining synapses die off…looking for a book I read as a kid, probably young adult story, about a family looking for their long lost sibling (young brother.) they have no idea if the kid they find is actually their brother until they play a game with marbles, yes, marbles, one of which is called the SPECIAL marble. I vaguely think the family had been separated by war of some other chaotic political or health event and now they are looking for the littlest sibling.
HELLLLLLP
Hi there
Looking for a chdrens book about two cats, one is ginger I’m colour. They both ended up moving/being taken from their house and having to live at the seaside up high, which they didn’t like, they then managed to find their way home to the original house. Front cover has the cats on it and is otherwise predominantly white. Read to me in 1992-2000, but I think book could be 80’s..? O also have some ideas of possible character names for the cats – pepper, Spice or chip…
Thankyou!!
Looking for a book that had multiple stories that were also illustrated about cats/kittens who did people-type things. Probably around the mid-90’s, it was hard cover and i want to say light blue. One of the stories I can remember was about one kitty who went shopping for a pair of jeans at the mall but struggled to find a pair that fit perfectly. She eventually found the perfect fit and the illustration was of a teen-aged female cat looking at herself in a mirror with her new jeans. any help would be appreciated!
Hi there – I read a book as a child sometime between 1996-1998 about a little boy who ends up in a magical realm inside a talking forest (I think via a portal through a library book shelf?). I can’t remember much more than that but thought I’d see whether it rings any bells.
My grandmother used to have a book when I was a child. I have no idea what the name was, but it had a variety of people, all shapes and sizes, and they have tea cups that resembled their owners. i, e., The short round man with striped shirt had a squat cup with stripes matching his shirt, etc. This would have been in the early 1960s
The story is The Little Toy Stove by Enid Blyton. You can find it in The Sunny Story Book, Enid Blyton’s Stories for Bedtime, Enid Blyton’s Coral Storybook, and Thirteen O’Clock and Other Stories: https://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/search.php?search=the+little+toy+stove

Thank you so much for the info on this one, I’ve been trying to find this story for years as o had it in my childhood bedtime stories book. I’m so thrilled to have found it, I was starting to think I had imagined it!
Glad I could help – and thank you for posting back!
Hello! I am looking for a illustrated kids book from the late 80’s/90’s about the man that lives in the moon. The moon was made up of light bulbs and he turns off the light bulbs over the month so he can visit his love down on earth. Any ideas?
I’m looking for a book I used to get from the library when I was a kid (80-90s). It was a cartoon book, hardcover I believe. It was all about Dragons, how to fight them (cut off their tail?). It was kind of dark I recall and how knights getting killed or caught by dragons. I cant seem to find any clues as to what is was called. Long shot but thought I would post.
it sounds similar to The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane but instead he went for an accidental adventure instead of being put in a closet
It isn’t that book though. Four people have suggested that already between here and reddit so it must be a wonderful book lol. I’ll have to check it out but it isn’t the one I’m looking for.
Maybe take a look at The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster? It’s been reprinted a lot of times, with different covers.

Hey! I’m looking for a book that’s a collection of children’s stories. Unfortunately, I can’t remember any of the stories expect for one. In this story, a little girl has a toy oven that actually works, but her mother is afraid she will burn herself so she isn’t allowed to use it. One day, she’s outside with her oven, pretending to cook, using grass and berries, twigs and whatever. A little fairy/pixie calls out to her, saying she needs to cook and bake for a party she’s throwing, but her oven is broken so she asks the little girl to borrow her oven. The girl agrees and she hangs out with the fair y/pixie while she’s cooking. She asks the fairy if she can go to the party but the fairy says no, because it’s too late a party for little girls. But, she does leave some of the baked goods she made in the oven for the little girl to find the next day. I distinctly remember how the fairy looks. She’s blue. She has blue skin, wavy blue hair. She was wearing a blue dress and the skirt I’m pretty sure was made of flower petals. I also think she wore a hat.
i’m looking for a big, yellow (i think) book. its about a boy going on an adventure, and all i can remember is that the whole book is really strange. there’s no other humans and he spends a whole lot of time exploring this really unique and interesting land, and dealing with inhabitants. i have only vague memories of the book since i was gifted it as a child and i was too young to properly understand it. it got left half way through out of frustration because it was a really intricately written book. i’m looking to find it and finish it!
Hi
I’m looking for a book that my teacher used to read to us that would have been in the mid to late 90s and I was in year3. I can remember that I loved it but I can’t remember anything else about the story. However the cover/ pictures were I believe the shape of a row of houses it was very colourful, full of detail, quite fairytale like. I’m sure we had to find things within the pictures.. reminds me of like Allan and Janet ahlberg type books but just don’t know what to type in to find it!? Any help would be most welcome.
Many thanks
I am looking for a children’s book read to me on the 1980’s. It was about 2 animal friends who lived in a house together. One didn’t come home one night and the other was worried it got eaten. The one in the house sat up all night playing the piano. The other survived by staying in a tree and came home in the morning.
Hi! I’m looking for a children’s book I read in the mid-90’s, but the book could’ve been from the 80’s. It’s about two girl best friends. One of them had, or they both shared, a pair of purple heart-shaped glasses, with pink lenses. Any help naming the book would be great! Thanks!
Did he get there by any special means, such as a flying machine?
I am trying to find the name of an old children’s book for someone else. All they can remember is that a boy had a friend who died. The boy found a portal to visit the friend. The dead boy provides information that saves his life.
Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark!
Does anybody remember a kid’s book about a secret (sewer system?) tournament style fight club, where the main boy character kept getting upstaged by this mysterious “dark knight” character who turned out to be his friend (a girl)? It wasn’t SciFi or Fantasy. No magic or time travel. The voice was closer to Judy Blume than Hunger Games. None of the books by Collins, or Shade’s Children. I read this in the 1970s or early ’80s. It was about the kids’ private lives away from their parents, but if I remember right they HAD parents. They just took their playtime seriously.” “Oh! I think it was told from her perspective. It wasn’t a surprise to US that she was the Dark Knight. If, again, I am remembering right…
I’m trying to find a book I read as a child. Some of the plot I have confused with the Velveteen Rabbit. This book was about a stuffed bunny as well but this one was bought or found at a fairground. The child that had him loved him for years but eventually grew up and put away his toys in a closet where he was forgotten for many years. Eventually one day the closet door was opened and the child of his former owner (who was now a man) was there. The father then gave his son his former toy and the bunny was loved for many more years. That’s all I remember except the bunny lost a button eye in the closet. It was a rather melancholy story but was a sweet sort of sadness.
Was it a puzzle book? If so, you might try looking at the Usborne series. They have many adventure type books about finding things.
My son actually remembered – it’s Puzzle Jungle and it is an Usborne book
Thanks for writing back with the book ID! Suzanne
I used to read a book to my younger siblings about a farmer who accidentally tore off extra pages of his calendar and therefore proceeded to accomplish many of his monthly chores in rapid pace. Window screens was one of his chores. I would have een reading this in the 60’s. Thanks in advance for any help.
I’m looking for a children’s book from the 1990s, possibly earlier. It had watercolour-style art of boys and girls meeting in a field of flowers. I believe the emphasis was on the colours blue and purple, maybe pink. I think the book was about getting along – kids were from two different towns, possibly rivals. I don’t remember. Please and thank you!
Trying to remember the name of a book I read with my children when they were young – 90’s to early 2000’s. It was a colorful picture book about an adventure to find an elusive tropical bird. It may have had an element of choosing an outcome along the way, but we’re not certain if that. We all remember enjoying the book – just not the name or any other detail.
The Family Read-Aloud Christmas Treasury, edited by Alice Low.
Well, the first would be Ramona and the Three Wise Persons, a chapter from Ramona and Her Father by Beverly Cleary. It must have been included in a Christmas collection along with The Shoemaker and the Elves (or The Elves and the Shoemaker).
Looking for a “and other stories” style book from the 80s of short stories. One was about a trainee monk in a monastery who was sat in the coldest part of the room writing out scripture. He spills his ink on the page and turns it into an illustration. He becomes lauded for this skill and is promoted. Another tale is about some girls at camp. One of the girls is snoring very loudly. The others invent a kind of Heath Robinson contraption to land a wet sponge in her face to stop her snoring. It doesn’t work. Another girl simply turns the snoring girl on her side and it stops.
I’m looking for a book I would read in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was about a miniature school that was made out of dominoes I think? Each page was a different setting in this miniature town. I can’t remeber a lot about it but am eager to find it. Anything helps! Thanks!
Hey looking for a book that had scary stories, cover was black I had it in 3rd grade, first chapter was about a quilt that this girl got from her mom at an antique store that was made by witches and she was to be a member, there was another called the mountain Childers? One called clickety clack etc lmk if u need more info if u could please find it

Chanda, thank you! That was it. It’s amazing that you figured it out considering I had some of the details wrong. I purchased a used copy right away that I will now share with my grandchildren. Best regards!
I’m looking for a book I had in the 90s. It was a collection of Christmas Stories. One of the stories there was a girl who was supposed to be a lamb but her costume ended up being pink or something because she was a little troublemaker. Then one of the stories in the collection was about elves helping a shoemaker at night. It had illustrations. There were several stories in the book. Thank you!
Looking for a children’s book about a boy who is leaning against a brick building when a policeman shows up and asks him what he’s doing. He tells the officer that he’s holding up the building. At first the policeman takes it as a joke, but as the conversation goes on, the policeman realizes the boy is not kidding. Intent on proving the boy’s claim false, he commands the boy to leave under threat of arrest. The boy reluctantly walks away and the building tumbles down.
Hi, I’m looking for a childrens book from the early 2000s, that had a black front cover with a yellow triangle on it – I think the main character was called Sam, but I remember in teh story his soon to be stepdad, Jack, accidentally knocks someone he works with off a high building, but doesn’t tell anyone because it is being covered with concrete the next day and no one knows until years later robots are scanning the pipes and find a body. He is then charged with manslaughter. But I can’t remember the name of it – it potentially starts with dangerous? Thank you!
A kid who has a monster friend that lives under a mountain with a secret gate you could only open with a black fir twig (maybe hemlock)
I’m looking for a children’s book about a little girl who spends a day at the circus with her father. The only thing I really remember about it is that they leave the house when it’s early in the morning and the sun is just rising, and they get home as the sun sets, and the clouds are described as pink, yellow, and blue, both in the morning and in the evening. And as they go home, the father carries the little girl on his shoulder, because she’s really tired. I don’t remember the title; I’m not even sure I’d recognize the title or even the cover of the book. But the cloud descriptions were so vivid…
I’m looking for a children’s book I had in the 90’s about a family that goes on a beach vacation. I think they vacationed in a camper. Unfortunately, this is all I can remember. I think the was a brother and sister on the cover.
Possibly: The Runaway Egg, by Katy Hudson.
By Balloon to the Sahara (Choose Your Own Adventure #3 from 1979)?
“You are visiting friends in France. You and your two friends, rent a balloon, pack some food, grab the dog and take off! But the best laid plans of mice and men never go right. Soon a storm appears, and you have to decide what to do? Will you try to land? Or wait out the storm? Let out some air or wait to see what happens next?”
“The storyline, of course, is practically impossible to recount in any way, because the storyline depends on your choices. The only constant is how it starts – you visit friends in France, rent a balloon and hop in. From there, at every turn, you have to make decisions. Go north or go south, peaceful negotiations or attack, swim for the shore or wait for rescue. Every choice leads you to a different page and takes the story down a different path.
A few choices lead to rather sorry – even scary – endings, and not just endings of the story, but your own ending! For example, one storyline has you drifting away into space, where the lack of oxygen leads to your demise.”
I’m having trouble uploading the image, but Professor Wright kind of looks like a giant (pg. 40):

A World Full of Monsters by John Troy McQueen?

Hi! Searching for a children’s book from long ago – the kids’ family had a food parade .. dressed like a hot dog plus catsup, mustard… it’s a long shot, I know. Was in a friend’s public library long ago, he even remembers where it was shelved but of course not the title! 😆
Thanks so much !
I’m looking for a board book from when I was a kid (90s), about things a baby interacts with. In the middle of each page there is a hole that gets progressively smaller with each page. I remember one page the hole was for a plate, one for a cup of juice, one for a roll of toilet paper, one for a bottle. But I can’t remember the name of the book. Thank you!
I’m looking for a book from the 70s or 80s. The characters are a monkey, duck, and other (don’t remember). The boys just want to have fun but they’re supposed to babysit the little brother (egg). I believe the egg gets stolen, maybe by gators and the friends go searching and on a hunt to find the little brother (egg). Does this sound familiar to anyone?
There was this children’s book that I loved when I was younger but I can’t remember what it’s called.
It’s about monsters and I THINK the premise is like monsters used to be wandering around dressed in human clothes in like Victorian times but now there are not many of them and you have to look carefully to notice them. I think the monsters were green and dragon/crocodile like?
Looking for a children’s novel that I’ve been unable to find. I recall that it involved two mice, written in journal format,. There was a bird of some kind who could not fly, and they were looking for (I believe it was) unicorns. I probably owned this book around 2009-2011, but I don’t recall the author or title. I believe the cover was fairly generic, somewhat stylized like a journal, but I can’t say I recall it clearly given that it was a long time ago and I have issues with memory clarity. I’ve been looking for it for years now, and I would love to read it again. If you can help I would be so appreciative, it’s been very confusing as I’m not sure if it’s real or not, but my parents seem to recall it all well.
I am looking for a book that I had when I was a kid. It had a kid, a hot air balloon, and a giant (maybe just a really big guy). And it was a choose your own adventure where you could pick between two actions that would take you to random pages in the book and the story changed based on your decisions. It had a very colorful and bold cover. I would love to find this book again!
Okay I just remembered about this bookI use to read when I was a kid about a boy who would ride over to his grandmas house on summer days and spends the day with her and she makes him tomato sandwiches and lemonade….. that’s all I can remember, anyone know????
The Golden Acorn by Geoffrey Higham.
When his father gets sick, Bobby Bushytail, the squirrel, has to collect acorns to fill the family cupboard for winter. He also wins the Golden Acorn – the prize for finding the biggest acorn during the nutting season – and along the way, he has to outwit Ferdy Fox.

A long shot… but might you be thinking of the Eloise books by Kay Thompson, illustrated by Hilary Knight? While not exclusively illustrated in black/white/pink, a lot of the illustrations fit that color scheme. Eloise does have a dog (Weenie) – but he is not a poodle. I’ve attached a picture from Eloise in Paris that shows her sitting at a sidewalk cafe with an awning (in blue) – and the facing page (in pink) has her in a dress shop, being fitted for a new dress. Even though Eloise’s dog isn’t a poodle, there may be a poodle in the books somewhere.

Hi Chanda, thank you for wracking your brain for me! Sadly, no, that isn’t it, unfortunately. I remember the dog being black and I remember the pink and white striped awning, pastry shop, and seeing her sit at a bistro table outside at a cafe. My dad worked at a printing company when I was little called Carlsberg Printers and they did print children’s books, it’s possible this is one he brought home for me…ah, thank you for trying!
I am looking for a book and I can’t remember the title of the book or the author. In the book there is a Squirrel. The Squirrels Mother collects acorns but she becomes ill so her son collects the acorns this year. He finds the largest acorn and takes part in a contest. which in the end he wins. A Fox…I think his name is Fred spies the Squirrel finding the largest acorn. He has the Squirrel clean his house. I think he steals the acorn from the squirrel. But yeah in the end of the book the squirrel wins the prize the largest acorn.
I’m looking for a children’s book from the 1980s that was only illustrated in pink, black and white. I remember there being a poodle in the story and that the girl in the book was going shopping…I remember an image of her sitting outside a cafe that had an awning…maybe a dress shop too. Would like to share the story with my niece. Thank you!
I am searching for the name of a children’s picture book that I bought around the mid 2000s. It featured two siblings going on a picnic and somehow finding themselves in a world that had honey rivers and waterfalls and giant beehives. They went down a honey river on a boat and nearly went over the edge of a waterfall… can anyone help?
Inside My Feet: The Story of a Giant by Richard Kennedy.
Magic boots kidnap a child’s parents and take them to a giant. The boy must then fool the boots into leading him to the giant so he can rescue his parents.

For the first one, possibly The Cake That Mack Ate by Rose Robart?
It starts off: “This is the cake that Mack Ate. This is the egg that went into the cake that Mack ate. This is the hen that laid the egg, that went into the cake that Mack ate. This is the corn that fed the hen that laid the egg…”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwT1myfCy50
Perhaps The Fireside Book of Children’s Songs, edited by Marie Winn and illustrated by John Alcorn? There’s a skeleton in the illustration for “Have You Seen the Ghost of John?”

?format=750w

I have one more I really want to find! I owned a book that had different short stories, possibly poems. There was a little story about a ladybug that did little tricks and would say to her mother “Look at me, Mama!” . I believe almost every page or verse had the words “”Look at me, Mama!” and she did!” I remember her jumping off a leaf, like a diving board.
I also am searching for a hard cover children’s book from the 80’s or earlier that was about color. Each page was a scene, with children, and many objects, and everything was the same color, just different shades and hues of that color. I don’t believe the book had a story line, just a bit on each page about the specific color and those objects. I distinctly remember a toy firetruck and cherries on the red page, and grapes stick out for the purple page. Not much help, I realize, as those are always in books of color! The children wore all clothes the same color. I remember a pretty yellow dress on a little girl! It’s a reach, but I hope someone has read this or has it and can tell me what it is!
I am searching for a children’s songbook I owned in the early 1980’s, but I think was probably published earlier. It had bright, 1960’s-1970’s psychedelic artwork in it. Tomie Paola’s style of illustrating people always sparks a memory of this book, but I cannot find any mention of that illustrator ever doing a songbook. I cannot even remember the songs except that the book kind of scared me and had at least one song that was illustrated with either bones or a skeleton… possible the song Dem Bones? It was creepy and delightful and I always hid it behind other songbooks on the organ so I didn’t HAVE to look at it unless I wanted to. It’s driving me crazy looking for this book!
Hello! I am looking for a book I read when I was younger to get for my son on the way. It’s like the art and literary style of the Frog and Toad books. I believe it had a butterfly innkeeper? And they are trying to clean the house but it keeps getting full from the different animals in the woods taking cover from the rain. I know this is vague and probably a long shot lol but all help is appreciated! Thank you!
I think you want 365 Bedtime Stories, by Nan Gilbert.
Second one, maybe Bedtime for Frances? (Frances is a badger.)
Hi, I’m looking for a book I read as a child in the 90s. I can’t remember much but I was absolutely fascinated. I’ve been looking for ages!
It’s about a boy and his parents living in the woods alone in a little house. The boy hears some commotion one night and sees his parents being taken into the woods by (this is where my memories fail) either a giant or giant boots that walked on their own.
The boy follows and finds his parents caged and undressed in the forest. The boots dance around the fire. I’m pretty sure a rescue takes place. I don’t remember anything else.
It was a slim chapter book meant for 3rd,4th, 5th graders. There were some black and white sketched pictures as well.
Help!
I read a book as a kid. The whole time you think the main character is a person. But in the end you realize that the main character is a rodent or something and the black river he is afraid of is the road and the monster is really as car or motorcycle.
Hello I am looking for 2 books! Both are old, I remember reading one as a young child in the 90s. First is about a hen, or a chicken on a farm, that lays eggs (obviously) but these eggs are cooked into a cake by an old lady.. ? The book was yellow, and I remember the chicken or hen distinctly . 2nd is about an animal, pretty sure a koala, that is going to bed but keeps coming up with an excuse to get up, like having a snack and then milk, and each time after it gets a request the mama says “goodnight so and so” . I know that sounds really vague haha, but they’re both stuck in my memory

Here’s a list of books that take place in colorless worlds: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/151508.Colorless_World
The only one I can find that shares any of the plot points from your description is The Prince’s New Pet by Brian Anderson – but it doesn’t have the kids, the ship, or the pancakes:
“This story is about a young prince named Varidian, who lost his mother; who loved colors. His father had a hard time dealing with the loss of his wife and decided to ban color from his kingdom. One day the little boy received a gift box and out of that box popped a creature called a Wooglefoof who is full of amazing colors. The creature is chased around the kingdom and into the dungeon by Varidian and the the color catcher. In the Dungeon they find the royal painter and where all the color from the kingdom was kept. While the struggle to keep the Wooglefoof is happening, the color catcher sets off an explosion that releases the color back into the world and the Kingdom is happy and colorful again.”

Thank you for your input. This is not the book that I was looking for, so I will have to work some more to find it. Thank you!
It would help a lot if you could provide an approximate year of publication.
Early 1960s. Part of a set (?) with Mother Goose. It was about a neighborhood and the families that lived there. Inside the back cover was a map of the “neighborhood”. One story, a kitten crawls into a bag of laundry, the laundryman (that’s how old this is!) picks up the bag. No one can find the kitten. When the laundry is returned, out of the bag walks the kitten with a note on a ribbon around her neck, ” One kitten, drycleaned, no charge.” There was a dog named Whattadogg…Help people, these bits of story are becoming an ear worm to me!!
That sounds like a variation of the Chinese fairy tale Ye Xian, which is essentially a Chinese version of the Cinderella story. The fish (which was actually a guardian spirit sent by Ye Xian’s deceased mother to watch over the girl) serves as the fairy godmother in this version, granting the girl what she needs when she talks to its bones.
A children’s book version of the story is Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story from China by Ai-Ling Louie.
Half-starved and overworked by her stepmother, Yeh-Shen’s only friend is a fish with golden eyes. When the stepmother kills the fish for dinner, poor Yeh-Shen is left with only the bones. But the bones are filled with a powerful spirit. When Ye-Shen is forbidden to attend the annual spring Festival, the spirit grants her a gown of azure blue and delicate golden slippers. That night, everyone marvels at the beautiful, mysterious young woman at the ball.

Teddy Bear of Bumpkin Hollow by Sharon Boucher. There are multiple editions with different covers.
“Teddy Bear of Bumpkin Hollow tells the story of a little bear who never obeys his mother. One day, she sends him to get honey and tells him to hurry home without stopping in the woods. He ignores what she’s said and, when he returns, learns that his parents have gone to his grandma’s house without him, leaving a baby-sitter in their place. Although the bear is sad, he learns his lesson in time for a happy ending.”

Hello! I’m looking for a series of children’s books (there were at least two of them) that were picture books accompanied by cassette tapes. I would have read/listened to them in the 80s. The books began with a picture of a bedroom with stuffed animals in the room or on the bed, then the story would take you into the world of said animal. I specifically remember one of the stories involving a baby chicken who was trying to achieve something (I know that’s so vague!) but there was a song on the cassette and the lyrics went like this: “you can do it, uh huh, you can do it! You can do it, I know you can..” I can still hear this part of the song like it was yesterday, I sing it to myself often! I feel like the word calico featured in the title or one of the stories. Any help much appreciated! Thank you x
This children’s book was possibly written around or before 1960 (the year my mom was born). I read it many many times when I was a child (I was born in 1983, so around the late 80s, early 90s), and the spine was already coming off of the copy I had had, indicating the age/wear and tear. The cover was hardback, and covered in red fibrous material (like a dyed loose burlap feel). No images on the cover, no words on the spine. It had detailed illustrations and a hand-typed feel to the lettering.
It was a story about a girl (possibly two girls, one who was chronically ill and her twin sister) who owned a life sized doll. The girl (or the healthy twin) would go out, sometimes with the doll (who was very demanding and sometimes mean to the little girl), and have tea parties and balls with various characters. I vaguely remember the name of Rose Red being mentioned, possibly in the title.
It sounds a lot like the plot of The Doll in the Garden by Mary Downing Hahn, but I’m pretty sure that’s not it. This book, in my mind, is older than even the earliest copy of that book (1989). It also isn’t Rose Red and Snow White.
Hi. I am looking for the title of a children’s book I had in the early 70s. Not sure if it was a Little Golden Book or just similar. A little bear is supposed to go on an outing with his family (to visit his grandmother maybe??) but must be home by a certain time. He does not follow the directions and family leaves without him, leaving someone else at home to watch him. I may have some of the details mixed up (maybe grandma is the one that stays home with him while family goes on outing??), but that is the general idea. Thank you in advance if anyone can identify this book.
Oh my goodness! I can’t believe it…that’s it! Wow. Thank you SO much!!! 🙂
You’re welcome! And thank you for taking the time to post back!
That sounds like Scarlet Angelina Wolverton-Manning by Jacqueline K. Ogburn.
“Scarlett Angelina Wolverton-Manning lives in a house that looks like a Bavarian castle. She seems to be a dainty child of privilege, whose life is ruled by etiquette. And then, Horrors! She is kidnapped by dastardly Ralph. Things look bleak for the little girl…or do they? What is she doing with Ralph’s pets when his back is turned? What is the fatal significance of the sunset hour? The tables are turned on the last page when her captor discovers her secret at last-she and her parents are werewolves.”
“While returning home for a French lesson with her tutor, Scarlett is kidnapped by the family chauffeur, Ralph Falstaff. Her parents agree to meet Falstaff at a cemetery and pay the ransom, on one condition: she must be home before dark. Their provision seems utterly sensible, but it ushers in a shivery surprise. As Scarlett’s parents arrive with the money, a full moon appears in the night sky-and the dignified couple begins to howl. “‘Hold on kid, we’re getting out of here!’ Ralph shouted as he zoomed the car toward the gates of the graveyard. ‘Werewolves! I can’t believe those people are werewolves.’ And in the backseat Scarlett Angelina said, ‘GGGGRRRR.’

Hi! I’m searching for a book I read only once as a kid, but which left a permanent impression on me – even into adulthood. It’s a horror storybook, vividly and darkly illustrated, which follows the tale of a werewolf as told to two children by an old man. I think he gets turned while on a hunting trip and, during one pivotal moment in the middle of the story, gets his paw cut off while shapeshifted and wakes up the next morning to find a bloody stump in place of his hand. The narrator ends the story by saying that the werewolf disappeared, only for it to be revealed to the audience that the narrator is himself the werewolf when he laments having a stump in place of his hand.
The illustrations were graphic and terrifying. So many dark colors were used; many blacks, reds, and blues. The werewolf itself looked more like a massive dog than the more popular bipedal form you see in most media; it was jet black with bright, piercing eyes. If you’re able to find any info on this book, please tell me! I’ve been hunting this one for years!! Many thanks in advance.
Hello!
A group of children gets on a ship to travel somewhere, but they only know how to cook pancakes, so during their journey, that’s all they eat, and they get sick of it.
They eventually arrive at a place that is only black/white/gray. No one is allowed to wear colors. Colors are illegal, and people get arrested if they are found to possess anything with color. The king of that country banned colors since the queen passed away, and he was in mourning. The kids walk around the place and find a woman that hung colorful clothing on her clothesline, which is illegal. Then the kids are somehow caught and brought to the king. The kids find a giant colorful picture of the queen in the king’s castle.
Hello, here is another book that I want to find.
Native American sibling, older brother and little sister are running away from their village because the village was massacred, I think. They travel on foot, and the Indian boy and girl eats a turtle that they caught during their travel because they were hungry.
Hello again, I have several more books that I want to find and will be posting my questions in 3 different posts.
A girl’s (mean) step mom tells the girl to cook a fish, but the fish asks the girl not to kill him, so the girl lets the fish go in a little pond/ big container with water in it, and every time the girl sang by the pond/container, the fish would come up. The step mom sees this, sings the song that the girl sang to make the fish come up, and the step mom cooks the fish and eats it. When the girl finds out, she cries. The girl is distraught and makes a little grave with the remaining fish bones, and later on, the fish bones turn into some sort of jewelry.
Thank you.
Glad I could help! Thank you for taking the time to post back.
Hello, I am looking for a children’s song book that I used to sing along in the early 2000’s (it came with a cassette tape that I could listen to).
I remember the book having an overall sky-blue color, a small rainbow on the corner, with children sitting on the rainbow.
The book consisted the song ‘O Christmas Tree’, ‘The Wheels on the Bus,’ ‘Five Currant Buns,’ and ‘It’s Raining It’s Pouring,’ along with many others.
Hi there! I’m looking for a children’s book I used to read in the late 90’s/early 00’s. The plot is about a young girl (I think I remember her being red-headed) who is kept inside/home all of the time. She lives in a mansion and is very busy with classes and activities (all done at home). From what I remember, she isn’t allowed to go outside at night or leave the house. She is kidnapped towards the end of the story, and it ends with the reader realizing that the reason she isn’t let out is because she is a werewolf (or some sort of monster) and she turns into one in her captor’s custody. I have tried for YEARS to search every variation of this basic plot, to no avail. Thank you for any help!
I’m looking for a children’s/teen book. It is set at a manor/mansion around Christmas/winter and it’s interactive. The book has various flaps, pull tabs, and a spinning wheel on the side of the book. Not sure of publishing time, but I remember reading in the late 1990s. There is also a scene showing the outside of the house and various cars driving up the circular driveway. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi! Im looking for an early 1980’s? book that was about the circus & had a line that said “horses that prance & clowns that dance”. I want to say it was shaped like a clown or elephant. Any ideas? Thank you
That sounds like the Phantom Stallion books by Terri Farley.
Book one (The Wild One): After recovering from a severe head injury and losing her best friend/ companion, Blackie who she also called Zanzibar, thirteen year old Samantha Forster finally returns back to the farm. Two years ago, Sam was in a riding accident when her horse, Blackie, took off; “she went one way, he went the other, and his off hind hoof caught her in the head”. Finally back on River Bend Ranch, Sam jumps right back into riding on her new mustang named Ace but she couldn’t stop thinking about Phantom; the mysterious wild, grey mustang who she saw, running through the desert plains, on her drive back to the farm. There was something about this stallion that stood out to Sam. Could the Phantom be her old horse Blackie who grayed out with age? The Phantom seemed to be attached to Sam and met her at the river some nights. At times, she even got so close “that she could touch the stallion.”
